I have a 98 explorer 4x4 and I think I snapped the front axle where it meets the tire. The other tire spins but the otherside won't plus the shaft can wiggle around a bit. The bad thing is a 4x4 with one wheel drive, yes I snapped the rear chain again from trying to push a friends quad out of the mud. I've done this many times before with no problems. This quad can go through most stuff easily since it has big superswamper vampires but the o-ring chain is wimpy.
How much are replacement shafts [right side] and are they a pain to do?

is your explorer a 250cc or the 400cc version? is it an auto tranny? what size vampires does it have on it? what kind of power does it have (top end and bottem end)? would you recommend one to someone who wants to hunt, fish, go mudding and still have some speed to trail ride on? my uncle is looking into one and asked me what i thought about them. thanks man and sorry i cant help you out on your problem

Its a 400 auto and is a great quad but if you change to an agressive monster tire it will eat up belts when you get stuck in deep mud. I think my tires are 25 or 26", they go through almost anything...

Piece of cake. Shouldn't take longer than 1/2 hour. Make CERTAIN that you clean the entire front end very well before you attempt the swap. An $80 purchase of the Polaris manual is a good investment if you do your own repairs/upgrades. Chain drive troubles, huh? I am so happy that my Sportsman is SHAFT DRIVE....

A buddy of mine told me that he turned the wheels around on his Sportsman. I laughed my butt off until I saw it. It is definitely....different. Then I took it for a spin. The handling and stability is much better (it wasn't bad to start with) but I'm not sure if I want mine to look like that...
