Bringing back that glassy sheen

Hey guys,

Now I know this is an off-roading board. We shouldn't be concerned about looks too much, but every once in a while it's nice to shine the rig up to just to not look like total riff-raff around the town. I'll admit when it comes to keeping the truck looking nice, I like to go all out.

Well I found just the stuff. I noticed my paint finish has been thorugh a lot. A few years of neglect with college and a never-garaged past has left the white paint a little less than gorgeous. Then the 3M brand has this product I notice. It's a micropolishing compund. So I get curious and dab it on a few spots of the bedsides that have some scuffs and repainted spots and all of a sudden I know how the body shops do it.

Holy smokes! This stuff makes my old paint feel like it's had 400 grit run all over it. Smooth as glass and with wax, the rain will bead up before it even hits. LOL! I plan to do the whole truck soon, but that's a lot of rubbing and I don't have a buffer. Man would that be handy. The only drawback is that the bottle is like $30, but I'd say for old paint, it's well worth it.

Tuck and roll, pussy.

dude I know what your saying... When I worked avation I used to take some jacked up plexigass/lexan and make it look like new with some 3m products.... great stuff.. the lexan took a lot of time and work but I could take something that looked like 80 grit was used to clean it an dmake it all new again but took some time... Micro polishing is a wonderfull thing

OK,

I got the bottle here.
3M "Fiesse-it II" Finishing Material
no silicone or wax
Part No. 051131- (and the following in larger letters) 05928

It's one quart and cost whoever found it $26.83 a few years back. Judging by the name, I'm guessing there's a "Finesse-it" process and this is step two. Further hypothesis leads that the third step is a wax or even finer grit. The bottle says it's to remove 1500 grit or smaller scratches. So maybe it's intent is a local polish, not for the whole shabang. Oh well, it looks to me like my whole truck could benefit. I'll post pics when I get time to shine shine shine.
