brake proportioning valve

I am re-doing the brakes in my 83 CJ7 and was wondering about the stock proportioning valve. The Jeep is completely stock as far as
brakes/axles. A new proportioning valve costs about $130, so is there any way I can reuse my old one? Do these things go bad or
what?

If It Ain't Broke DON'T Fix It.....There's enough things to fix on a jeep without looking for them ...But if you have money to throw away, send it to me If it makes you feel better....LOL

They do go bad but if yours isn't broke don't fix. I redid the brakes on all four corners of my '77 CJ-7 and I guess due to the increase brake pressure my P-valve started leaking pretty bad. I replaced it with a used one. It leaks a little but not enough to warrant $130 replacement, yet. So when you redo all your brakes just make sure to check the valve in a day or so for new leaks.

Thats kinda what I figured, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I am trying hard to do that so this project won't cost me a fortune. It is already out of control, it was only supposed to be an old Jeep for off roading...

"It is already out of control..." Pretty standard in the Jeep world. I figure I can expect to double any estimate I come up with for a repair/upgrade and at least triple the amount of time I estimate for me to do the work. But of course, I am about the slowest mechanic in the world. Not sure why I am so slow, maybe I just like spending time with my Jeep./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
Good luck with your brakes.

I like spending time with my Jeep too, but i like it more when I get a lot done. I think the project is going pretty good, I started it
about 3 months ago and I am not half way done, but getting there. I have a week off school next week, and guess where I'll be?
In the garage all week working on the Jeep! Spring break in Florida or Jeep? Tough choice....
