been shooting since i was about 12, but i just bought my first gun....that i paid for myself (have a shotgun that dad gave me)

It's a Soviet made Mosin Nagant bolt action rifle..... i heard they were a rip-off of the Mouser.... its chambered for 7.62x54 and its action is O-so-smooooth.

its really nice shape, 1936 production and have yet to shoot it, but i cant wait!

i bought it because it was inexpensive, easy to find parts for, and reliable.

I dig it!

Sounds cool, was it a BIG-5 special? They have some of those eastern block guns for really cheap. I have seen 8mm's for $60. If you can get scope on that thing, it might not be a bad hunting rifle. I don't really know any ballistic data on that cartridge, but it might not be too bad. Some of those old war guns are kind of slow shooters, but if it is a heavy enough bullet it will still have enough energy for game hunting.

A friend and I ordered 2 moisin-nagent rifles a couple years ago. model 1896 or something, huge gun and sights out to 2200 yds. Takes 7.62 x 54 too kicks real good!! No worries about power, it is about the same as a 30-06. When the guns arrived we each took a box. Mine was new, his looked like it was run over by a tank!! They only cost $60.00
For real fun get an sks, early model of the ak-47. I paid $100 and it's so fun it must be illegal!!

It will never be finished unless it burns up in the woods.

Now you've gone and done it. You went and started another "addiction". From now on when you get that tax refund or birthday check for mom you'll have to decide do you want that new Detroit locker for the rear or the Leupold scope. Do you want the Warn winch or do you want the Remington 700 PSS. New seat covers or a case of ammo. Anyway, welcome to the club and join the NRA.

too late for that....im already planning on getting my FFL dealer license so i can get stuff at whole sale :-D

oh...by the way..... 7.62x54 is about the halfway point between 30-30 and 30-06

i went shooting with my friend a few weeks ago and had some brass left over...so i sized em up.

My wife, whom I love dearly, bought me an AR50 by Armalite. Every trigger pull costs between $1.50 and $8 depending on type of ammo. Surplus WWII machinegun ammo shoots like crap but its cheap. After a good day at the range I sometimes feel like it was a bad day at the Casino. "Boy, I sure could have used that money to buy a _____ for the Jeep" Guess its the price we have to pay to be men. Oh, and for pretty good ammo prices you might want to check out www.ammoman.com

Congradulations. I recently purchased my first pistol(what a P.I.T.A. here in jersey) a Taurus Tracker .45LC. It will join the mossberge(sp?) 12 gauge breach barrell and the remington pump action in my collection. The 7.62 ammo the gun takes is fairly common and made by several manufacturers(It was standard millitary/NATO ammo for some time).
Now all I need to do is convince the state that I should be allowed to carry the hand gun. My sister was granted a carry and conceal permit due to the fact that she is a woman and my brother-in-laws trucking company is under her name(They assume that she may be making regular bank deposits and such). As for me it will most likely be a lot tougher. Untill then all I can do is fire it at the range and then transport it home for safe keeping.

One other thing to all the gun owners around the board...Buy Gun Locks!!! The last thing we need is another kid getting ahold of his parents gun and shooting someone. As some one who has purchased a pistol in one of the hardest states to do so, It doesn't need it to be any harder (cause the criminals will get them anyway).

5.0s and 4 speed = lots of broken parts!!!
