I was wondering if a dana 20 and a dana 300 share the same bolt pattern? If I were going to take a tf727 out of a scout that had an amc engine would I be able to put on a dana 300 and put it in my cj? thanks for the help

careful, when IH did use AMC engines Im not sure whether they used the AMC bellhousing patterned Trannis too ( of course they should have but who knows, maybe factory adapter rings)

also teh dana 20 and dana 300 are differnt bolt patterns although there is a rare scout 300 that bolts up just like a dana 20.

the Tf727 used in scouts with a dana 20 will not bolt up to a dana 300 the same way a Jeep TF tranny will

BUT the parts shafts gears and whatever else can be swapped back and forth freely, so if your inclined and have the parts base you can bolt any of it together.

When did IH use AMC engines? I didn't know they did. IH had V8's in 304/345/392 ci displacements, but the 304 was not AMC.

Well if he didn't know they did, and you didn't know that he didn't know they did, then how do you know they did? :)
Seriously, I've owned 5 IH vehicles. I've never heard of any V-8s other than the 304/345/392. What did the AMCs come in? Just curious...
Thanks!

Re: Bolt patterns 727

Yeah I know someone with a rare scout dana 300 out of a 1980 but he would probally want a pretty penny for it. And like you mentioned who knows what ih did because they bought parts from everyone and it might not bolt up. Also what do you think I should pay for dana 44's f+R with 4.27 gears? thanks Mike

Re: Bolt patterns 727

a buddy in college had an old scout ( a small one sorry im not up on scout name designations)

and it had an amc 258, it was bought new by his father and a fun ride.

ive heard from several sources that some IH trucks used the amc 401 and called it a 400 I belive, maybe 403?

IM thinking pickups or travelalls were probably where the 401 was but not sure.

I wouldnt mess with a scout front 44, but the rear is simple, $50 if its froma salvage yard and you have to regear, if its new parts and the right gears then in the $300-500 range

front axle should be a wag or cut down chevy 44
