Body Lift question - Modify the frame?

Hey all,

Doing a tub swap in the next few months. My CJ frame is in great shape besides the actual frame mounts. The holes for the body mounts are in need of repair. I am thinking of fixing them by welding 1" square tubing on top so that it is also a body lift and not have to worry about the body lift problems.

Does anybody think this is a bad idea? Not concerned with how it will look, this is a trail jeep only. I already have new set of stock body mounts so I don't want to have to buy the daystars.

Any comments? Or any pictures of your home brew body lifts? Thanks.

How wide is the stock frame mount? Lets say 3". I am going to use a 3"x3"x1" piece of square tubing. Welded on top of the stock mount which will be cleaned up, the tubing will have a hole drilled on top and bottom so that the rubber mount will go inside of it.

A number of my friends have done this. I would do like you mentioned and weld them to the frame. A friend of mine ran over a SUbaru at 45 mph and his held up fine, no problems. Just check with your local lift laws though, the cops tried to bag him on it as any body lifts in Maine have to be manufactured by a company specifically for that purpose, but since he welded them to the frame they were no longer lift blocks, they were part of the frame.

Friends of mine have done the same thing to the suspension, welding blocks between the frame and suspension. I would never do it, but it works fine for them.
