hi all
i just read about a aussie guy that put positive air pressure from his ARB compressor, into his bellhousing and distributor at watercrossings to prevent water coming in.

to me this sounds as a good idea but whats your thaughts ?

You shouldn't need to pressurize the distributor if you are careful about sealing it. And I don't know if water will cause any serious problem for the clutch. It's pretty much the same materials and technology as the brakes, and they do all right getting wet.

A bunch of years ago I had persistant problems with water in the distributor. I ran a small tube from the distributor into the passenger compartment. There I had a fitting that attached a 1-pound freon can and a rubber balloon. I would inflate the balloon with freon and let the balloon pressurize the distributor. It worked fine as long as the balloon was inflated.

Then I noticed that the balloon not only deflated but actually got sucked flat. I discovered that the vacuum advance diaphragm was leaking. The vacuum was sucking blowby past the shaft seal, and the moisture in it was condensing inside the cap. New vacuum advance, no more problem. Now I can pressure wash the engine without it bothering the ignition system.
