I just bought a stock 4x4 cherokee and want to upgrade the tires with out lifting right now. What is the biggest tire I can use without rubbing? Thanks, Alan

I read somewhere that a stock cherokee with no spring droop used 30x9.50's with a some rubbing on the trail.

My dad has a 99' and put a 3" lift to put 30" tires on it. This fits perfectly so a 30" tire on a stock lift would definitely rub. The stock Cherokee sits too low, you might as well spend a few bucks and throw a small lift on it. It not only handles a whole lot better but looks great.

Here you go, 235/75/15 tires fit or 30x9.50x15 fit fine too. Before my lift I placed 31x10.50x15 BFGoodrich TA on mine for a couple of weeks and they didn't hurt my frame and themselves. Right now I have a bilstein 1" lift that would help the tires not rub and you could just replace the bistein with the stock suspension with no drivetrain changes at all. Hope this helps.

Although it is stated in many reference books and magazines as the largest tire that can be fitted to a stock XJ, some who have tried the 30x9.50/15s have posted that they rub at least intermittently. I do know that the largest tire that came on a stock 86 Cherokee XJ was P225/75R15. My 86 2 door Pioneer came with P215/75R15s from the showroom. Mine don't rub at all even at full compression while turning./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

PS This seems to be one of those questions that don't have a definite answer/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

I have heard of people claiming that you can run a 31's on a stock XJ but I have never seen it done. I know 30's will fit but you may get a little rub if you are offroading.
