Big score at the \"recycling yard\" today

Just got finished installing a new (used, but replacement) throttle cable onto the 5.0

Someone must have just put it on before hauling their truck off to "the recyclers". Scored it for $12 American. Better yet, I scored 4 styled steel wheels (like mine), with perfect trim rings, all 4 center caps and two near mint Winter tires for $120 American. They took em' off for that and put them in the truck for me !

Now I've got a complete set of rims for the Winter and I can save my Summer rims and tires from extra wear and tear. Woo Hoo !

! That's the way to go.
As you well know Sixlitre I'm in "frozen" country in the winter too.
Nothing' beats having 2 sets of wheels and tires that are specific to the season.
I've tried, but nothing beats studs in the winter, and you can't run em (legally) in the summer.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy about two sets (and with perfect trim rings and center caps too) for both seasons. You run studs ? Real metal studs ? I'm pretty sure theys illegal here in Ontario. I'm just lookin' forward to some good old regular Winter 235/75/15s this Winter instead of slidin' around on my 275/60/15 Dunlop GTs.

The Dunlops are great 7-8 months a year and really make the Bronco grip the pavement. They also offer low rolling resistance compared to my knobby 31s, but they float over snow and don't brake all that well in February.

p.s./
That was one good turn helping that poor Jeeper. Being a Mopar man, I'm well aquainted with the weak knee'd A-999 tranny. It's the first thing that gets deep sixed, in favour of a bullet proof 727, whenever I encounter one in a Mopar I work on.

When Mopar bought themselves AMC to get the Jeep portion, I guess they figured they'd saddle them with their latest derivitive of the old A-904 tranny. Poor Jeep, mind you AMC had been using Chrysler trannies since the 60s, including my cherished 727, behind their hot 390s and torquey 401s.

Those motors never challenged the 727s like the Road Runner Magnum 383s, 440s and killer torque motors like the 413 and 426 dual 4bbl wedges, Hemi and the planetary gear shredding 440 six barrel motors. My buddy's 440 six barrel Road Runner used to actually hurt us during a full throttle downshift back into 1st at 30mph. I can only imagine what the 727 was feeling.

Yep, metal studs. They are softer than they were 10 years ago.
Actually a good thing I think, they wear at the same rate as the tire now.
These are what I run.
There's a bunch of articles on the "net" that dispute the claims of studs ruining the roads.
Especially with the advent of softer studs in the last 10 years.
Have to put a couple links up if I ever find em again.
BTW, if you can't run studs, at least get the winter tires siped.
Makes a big difference on ice, however, still not as good as studs.

RE: Jeep help.
I was surprised how that tranny worked/didn't work.
Fluid and filter change with a good flush solved it.
I didn't get to see what came out, but evidently they thought it was empty, cause you couldn't read any level on the dipstick.
When it was drained, it looked more like lightweight sewing machine oil.

Know what ya mean about downshifting into 1st at 30.
You should try it my Bronc with the C6/shift kit.
I get a real good chirp out of it, but I'm sure it's not healthy for the drivetrain.
I only do it when I need to get people's attention.
Good thing I make sure they've got seat belts on.

My first car was almost a '68 Road Runner-383.
I opted for a '67 Cougar GT-390 instead.
Insurance was cheaper.
