Will a bellhousing from a '81 cj with GM 151 and t-176 work to bolt a '71 225 V6 to a '69 t-98 from a ford truck? Is the bellhousing a standard BOP?

Thanks,
Lee

The pattern on the 151 4cylinder is the same as Chevy V8 & V6. BOP is different, the 225" Buick V6 won't fit. Check with Advanced Adapters or Novak on the trans to bellhousing fit of the T98. Hope this helps.

Ford used a T18 in 69. Yours may have a top cover that says T98 but on the left side it sould say either T18 or 1301. It will bolt directly to the 176 bellhousing. The bellhousing you have will fit a Chevy block but not the Buick.
It's very easy to adapt the Ford T18 to the Buick bellhousing.

Thanks for the info. I do not own either the trans or bellhousing. A friend has the trans from a '69 10 wheeled logging truck and said it was a t-98. He said it has the 6.39-1 first gear. Before I buy it I wanted to see how difficult it is to put in on a budget. I have a t-14 and without adapters I don't think I can bolt it to my current bellhousing.

Thanks,
Lee

We've got the same model, but I've modified mine considerably, such as a T18 (see 1948 CJ2A thread, my reply to edd). Also have power steering, glass tub, 33x12.50 BFG MTs, Rancho9000s, 2.5" shyjacker lift, Conferr shackles, Lockright, and more. Hit my private email if you want to talk any '71 specific mods.

I looked at a T-98 a ways back and my older brother (all he drives is jeeps, and a '76 CJ-5 with soft top in our Maine winter's is dedication) said the two wheel drive T-98's had a different output shaft than the 4WD versions. I passed one up in lieu of an SM465 to put behind my GM151 in my Scrambler. Of course, if you're talking AA or Novak it's no problem, but it's a lot of money.

It is nice to see that there are more people that have a 70-71 Jeep CJ5...It seems to me that these years are a little different...They were the only years with the Dauntless V-6 and the T-14 if I remeber correctly...As far as the bell housing question goes...I know that the bell housing adaptor between the bell housing and the t-14 are different depending on wheather ot not the stock motor was the I-6 or the V-6...I know because I was going to put a t-15 into my jeep this summer but the adaptor between the v-6 and the t-14 won't work...The one for the I-6 to the t-14 with however...
