Re: Bead lock rpogram done

Scott,

Sounds good. Your price is a little cheaper than rockstomper but you are using 1/4" bolts rather than 3/8" right? That sounds ok to me since each bolt is not torqued very much so why do you need anything larger than 1/4" anyway?

Have any pics of the rings welded on? Have any recommendations for the amateur welder? Just do a few inches at a time?

Do you know if 35" MTRs fit well with 15x8 US Wheels and your rings? Any mounting problems getting the tire bead over the rings?

Thanks,
You make the coolest stuff!

Re: Bead lock rpogram done

thats a good price, wish they were around when I was shopping. I ended up with Rockstompers (which I'm happy with)

TIPS - put a thin layer of RTV in the inner ring to help seal the tire, I didnt do it to the first one I mounted and it will go flat in about 3 days. I sealed the other 3 and they been holding the same pressure for 5 months.

- before you tighten down the bolts, you can put a fan belt ( I can try to find the size if anyone gives a damn)on the inside ring of bolts, this does 2 things. It keeps mud from building up in there and more importantly, it gives the bolts something to tighten down on. It allows the bolts to get tighter and prevents "coning" of the outer ring.

- Its hard to balance a bead lock, I used 3 golf balls in each front tire, I dont know if it works or not but I dont have any balance problems.

Hey Zooky,

What tire to you run with your bead locks? How fast do you drive them on road?

Are they actually street legal in your state?

Everything I heard about beadlocks indicates that are really for trailer queens: hard to balance, leaky.

So unless its an off-road only rig that gets towed to the trail head, do you really want them?

Cool never-the-less, when I get a decent trailer I'm going bead locked.

35" MTR's, I drive it on the street sometimes, I dont know how fast I am going but I easily keep up with traffic (not highway speeds though
), I dont see why they wouldnt be fine at higher speeds.

I dont have a problem with them, the one I didnt seal leaks down in a few days (I have to fix that), the others hold air fine. Either I didnt have a balance problem or the golf balls work, either way its not an issue for me.

I have seen 2 dot aproved ones one was a 2 piece aluminum rim that split down the center and had some sort of pipe in the middle to lock the tire on the rim like the hummer rims ( dont know if hummer rims are dot aproved) the other is a piece that seems to be added to a steel wheel allmost looks like a the edge of the rim bolts on and off
