OK CLEARTOY. . .ON MY '95 BANSHEE I HAVE PAUL TURNER/ DUNCAN PIPES. THE THING RUNS LIKE A TOP, BUT ONE OF THE SILENCERS SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF OIL RESIDUE AFTER I RIDE. THE PLUGS READ IDENTICALLY. PACKING IN THE PIPES LOOKS EVEN AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. WHEN MY RIDE IS RUNNING IT SEEMS TO BLOW TWIN CLOUDS, NEITHER ONE LOOKS HEAVIER EXHAUST WISE.
WHY, WHY, WHY - I JUST DON'T GET IT. LOOKING AT THE HANDLE BARS FROM THE SADDLE THE RIGHT HAND PIPE IS THE CULPRIT. I MIX MY FUEL AT 32:1(MAXIMA 927)

Hey Superfly. I noticed you had a post to sell your Banshee. How come?

Back to the lecture at hand. Where on the pipe, is the oil residue. It is up near the exhaust port on the cylinder, or at the end of the silencer(rearmost)? Or is it not on the outside of the pipe body, not near the joints?

When you say your ride is runnin, it blows twin clouds.......what color and are you reffering to when starting a cold engine, or after thoroughly warmed up?

how old is the top end? Im tryin to decide if its an internal problem or external.

Heres a thought, you say its the right pipe. Is it on the underside of the pipe? IF so, could it maybe be antifreeze coming from the radiator hose?

I cant get to the right side of my Banshee to look for potential oil leak areas right now, but im pullin it out of the garage this evening to load it up. I will look at that side and see if i can come up with something. In the mean time get back to me about where the oil is.

I WANT TO SELL FOR A NEW 2000. I LOVE THE BLUE, AND I'M DONE BUILDING MY PRESENT BANSHEE AND NOW I'M BORED WITH JUST GETTING TO RACE AND RIDE IT. I NEED A NEW STOCK ONE TO BUILD UP. THERE ARE A FEW THINGS I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY. MID-RANGE PORT JOB INSTEAD OF TOP. LONE STAR A-ARMS INSTEAD OF THESE LAEGERS. TRINITY COOL HEAD INSTEAD OF PRO-DESIGN.
ANYWAY. . .MY SILENCER IS THE LEAKER. IT HAS A BIG DRIP RUN FROM THE EXHAUST HOLE DOWN THE CANISTER, JUST THE FACE END AND NOT THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF IT. THE TOP END IS ONLY ABOUT 3 HOURS OLD. BUT IT HAS ALWAYS HAD THE DRIP. IT'S NOT HEAVY, BUT I HAVE TO WIPE IT UP EVERY TIME OR IT WILL GET BAKED ON. IT'S NOT USUALLY HEAVY ENOUGH TO EVEN FLOW TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CANISTER FACE. I DON'T HAVE AN OVERFLOW BOTTLE AT ALL, AND THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW HOSE IS ROUTED TO NEVER DRIP ON MY QUAD.
MY THOUGHTS ARE THAT THE INSIDE OF THE PIPE IS BECOMING ROUGHER AND MORE CARBON COATED. ONE PIPE MORE THAN THE OTHER WHICH IS RESULTING IN SLOWER FLOW FROM ONE SIDE. THESE SILENCERS HAVE SEEN A FEW YEARS OF HEAVY RIDING. I USUALLY PUT IN ABOUT 10hrs. OF RIDE TIME IN A WEEK. I THINK I SHOULD REPLACE THE PIPES TO VERIFY MY THEORY BUT WHAT A GREAT EXPENSE JUST TO SEE.

I checked my banshee and it seems to have the same amount of sleaze leaking out of the seams of the silencers on both sides. However, I do get more smoke from one side than another, always have. It seems to me it's the right side that smokes more, I'm not sure. One thing to consider is the possible difference in coolant temp between the two sides. Hot water leaves the head, is cooled by the radiator, and goes thru the pump. It stands to reason that the cylinder closest to the pump gets the cooler water and the other will therefore run hotter, probably burning oil more completely(less thick smoke and goo in the pipe). This is just a swag, so feel free to kick holes in it.
