Does anyone know if the AW4 4 speed automatic has been successfully installed in a TJ or YJ? It seems this would be a direct bolt-in only requiring a transfer case tail shaft conversion to retain a suitable rear drive shaft length. With numerous AW4s available for cheap and the proven durability, seems this would be a porular swap. Any info??

I beleive the tranny your talking about shows up in the early 90s cherokee and grand cherokee with the 6 cyl engine. As far as using it in your wrangler it should fit with no problem other than the tranny mount may be a little different. Now the electronics part of it may be the problem. I've got a 46rh tranny in mine from a 93 v-8 grand cherokee and the mounts were the only difference. As for the computer, on mine I set the OD and converter lockup on toggle switches, so I now have a 5 speed tranny using either one or both when I want to. As far as durability, unless your doing some hardcore four wheelin it should hold up fine. Just one persons opinion, Steve
