Hey I saw some of your pics of the tire carrier you have and I was wondering if you could show me some pics of what you used for the latch. Im in the process of making mine and Im still not sure what to use for the latch and pivot. Thanks.

Cole - I used a spindle and hub from a trailer for a pivot. I gleened the idea from, I believe, H8, and it works great! I did the same as he did in that I turned the flange off the hub and welded my carrier assembly to this. I welded the axle shaft to my bumper.

The unit uses tapered bearings and grease seals to create a smooth functioning swing assembly. I also installed a marine style grease cap.

Here are the pics I have....not the best, but maybe it will help:

I also used a trailer hub. If you have access to a lathe, it can be turned down to just the hub, or you can use a grinder (it's a pain).

Use a hole saw to cut into the bumper for the spindle. You can cut an access hole on the inside to secure the bottom of the spindle, but a hole saw gives a perfect surface for the spindle.
