Whenever I go for a trip I stumble around in my garage for three days making sure I have everything I'm going to need. As soon as I get on the interstate I start rembering stuff that I forgot. Soooo.....
Lets make a list of all the stupid stuff we forgot, or, forgot to check. example; I rode with a guy who didn't bring a tire guage. I forgot to check my tranny fluid before stagecoach and ended up putting a gallon in at the top of a hill that almost killed it. As you all know it sucks being the guy who forgot something!! Trust me I'm going to write this stuff down.

I've just started carrying all the stuff i take wheeling in my tj every day. Also if there's some maintance or an upgrade that i'm planning on doing (brakes or something or new u-joints for ex.) really soon and have the parts i keep them in the jeep because i'm never sure when they are going to be needed. Also keep tools that you use in your tool box like a set of deep well, tox bits, hex sockets, spindle nut sockets, brake tools, things that might not be 100% necessary but it's nice to have them. I know everybody's trucks have differnt parts they eat and what ever your truck eats keep a spare or 2 of them.

Gear oil and hex bits for those fill plugs. I went on a 700 mile round trip over thanksgiving with a leaky rear end and forgot to take gear lube. Had motor oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, washer fluid, spare U-joints and quite a few tools, but no gear oil and no hex bits to get it in. Luckily, there was an Advance nearby.

I only work on my Jeep with my Jeep tool bag. I never remove anything from it for other tasks, I never temporarily borrow from another tool set. I could remove my engine, drivetrain and axles, alone in a dirt field with my Jeep tool bag(provided I had tree strong enough to support yanking the engine). I always have at least the tools that I need. Its also nice to bring a welder, impact wrench, grinder, drill, bits, spare axle assemblies, chain, recovery gear, u joints, misc nuts and bolts, antifreeze, gear oil, power steering fluid, motor oil, funnel, 1st aid kit, tire repair kit, tire gauge, air down tool, flashlights, emergency blanket(tarps), hammer, tire irons, CB radio, compressor hose, air chucks, misc quick air connectors, gloves, duct tape.

And any tools that i can think of that will fit on my CJ. Don't forget the duct tape also. I am sure rhere are some more things that I am "forgetting" to mention but these are the main things that I carry. Its hard to believe all of this can fit in a cj.

I'm with H8 on this one. I have a tool box that is bolted down to the rear floor of the tub that keeps all of my Jeep tools and misc. small parts (including the knife and pistol). If I ever run into a tool that I need while working on the Jeep I add it to the Jeep box. Should be able to repair anything that breaks with what's in that box.
Oh yea Brad, I've got the motor mounts as well./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Someone also make a list for Richard for driving on the street. Make sure the first necessity is GAS !!
Seems as though he was leaving the club meeting last night and turned a corner and lost his fuel prime. Just to clarify he technically didn't run out of fuel...Just gotta give him some crap about it, 'cause at the same time a cop had just pulled over some idiot for running in the wrong lane. That exact spot is where Richard sucked some air, and at the same time there was another cop cruising right behind Richard that had to slam on brakes. Just had to be there. Maybe he needs to pack and extra pair of panties too. Put that as # 2 on his list.
BTW I am using the MORE engine mounts. If they come loose I'll probably leave the jeep where it sits..

I usually bring along the least i can.Of course most of my wheeling is within 20 miles of my house. But I always have a spare,highlift,tools,shovel,axe,200 foot of recovery gear.I also have a big dog I take with me so I always carry a saddle just in case.

My jeep may be ugly to some. But she's a beauty in my eyes.

I used to keep most everything in the CJ since it's not always the most reliable every-other-daily-driver, but with just a few simple tools in it I've almost doubled the value of the Jeep, and you're just increasing your loss if someone steals it (or just the tools inside).

But on a trail ride, I agree - pack it in!
