Are they still zuks?

Dont take this the wrong way cuz im a big fan of the built rigs. But, when all you have left of a sami is the body i dont think they should be calles suzuki's anymore. Theyre still samurais cuz thats what the body is but i dont think theyre zuks. Its kinda like building a ford streetrod but stuffin a small block chevy in for motivation. My scout runs full width dana's but theyre from another international therefore its still an international.

Im not postin this to make anybody mad so please dont take it that way. Im jus wondering what ya'lls opinion is on this.

If you want to get anal about it, changing the axles is no big deal. Dana is not IH. Hell, in South America the TracKick has a Dana rear axle....

You can buy a LWB in Europe with a Peugot diesel...that is from Suzuki directly.

Isuzu and Jeep ran the GM 2.8...

Toyota and Jeep run the Aisin AX-5 5 speed transmission...

Dodge doesn't own Cummins...

You see where I'm going...

Does this mean that a 4.3 powered HT running wagoneer axles is no longer wlecome at Suzuki runs? I'd hope not...

I'm with Billy Bob, Hell most J**Ps are not nothing more than a shell and I bet you still call it a J**P. I still run all suzuki parts but I would gladly run with a fellow owner of a Samurai even if it did have the following
4.3 Chevy
700r tranny
Atlas II t-case
Ford 9" axles
some wild coil suspension
Damn wake me up I'm starting to drool!

Mine hasn't been referred to as a Suzuki by me in years... it's a Zuki... and no matter what I do to it, it will always be a Zuki. Is it a Suzuki? No... yer right. There is something to be said for maintaining the Suzuki'NESS of yer rig, and I plan on getting another and keeping it Suzuki'FIED. But this one I have now with the 2.9 and c4 tranny will always be a Zuki eventhough it's no longer a Suzuki. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

It sure as hell ain't a Jeep!

I argued this in Utah till I was blue (I wanted to qualify as "custom" for smog reasons) I think if you have put in the hours and dollars and parts to where you have surpassed the vehicles value, you should be able to call it whatever name you want because it is a "hybrid" custom vehicle. When I say "anything" I don't mean Ford or Chevy or Toyota. It is clearly not what the manufacturers intended and they have name rights I won't mess with. I bought my Samurai for $1200 and have since put in about a hundred hours of labor and a couple thousand in cash. Few people look a it and say "oh, yeah a Samurai". The term "hybrid" works for me.

Let me weigh in a bit here. I feel that if you have an engine based on the 1300, Samurai axles, basically the Samurai as it came, you have a Samurai. If you have a 1600 engine, kick/track axles with a Sammy frame, etc you drive a Suzuki but not necessarily a Samurai. Once you stick a ford, chevy, buick, etc engine in it, you drive a hybrid car. The real bottom line is, build it and call it what you like, but my 1300 Sanurai crawling up a hill will always be much more impressive than your "thing Suzuki" crawling up it. I bought and built a Samurai because I wanted to see what I could do with a Samurai, not what I could do with a chevy with a small frame.
That all being said, I'd love to have a Zuk with a buick grand national v6 stuffed in it, but I wouldn't call it a Samurai! lol

amen man, its all different strokes for different folks. i got a *zuk* body sittin here waitin for a set of 3/4 ton danas to get put under it. after wrestling a set of half ton 44s with porter 2 weeks ago, im gonna wait till i got help for sure. no way i can wrestle a d60 myself. already got 38s mounted, got 305 bow tie sittin in the car. runs like a charm. when its done(if i ever finish it) its gonna be one heckova basturdization. be it a hybrid, zuk, rebodied bow tie or what ever they wanna call it, its gonna be my monster, titled as a *zuk*.... if you prefer hybrid, go for it man. its your rig, you do what you want. your name for your rig isnt going to hurt my feelings, it doesnt impose on me in any way. its words. dont matter if you got a mercedes diesel, and 2.5T rockwells in it, ill wheel with ya. i dont care what ya ride, its the persons attitude that is what makes or breaks it.... hope to hook up one day with ya man....... ever in my neck of the woods, holler at me, we'll go riding. got plenty of rigs to go with.....

Thanks for the input. I was jus wondering what you all thought. I dont care who runs at zuki runs as long as it has parts of a zuk. In fact i will wheel with anybody who wants to wheel. I dont care if its an eagle 4x4 or a subura brat 4x4 if they want to wheel lets wheel. In my personal opinion i think a stocker goin up a hard trail is more impressive than a Hybrid rig goin up a hard trail.

Like i say everybody has an opinion. Im not gonna say that somebody elses opinion is wrong and mine is right. I was jus wonderin what ya'll thought. Thanks again for the input.

Oh ya, i dont know if anybody here watches mtv but somebody at work told me that in Jay-Z's new video theres a stretched samurai with possible triple axles.

I was going to say a bunch of stuff, but Billy Bob said it all for me! I'm going with toy axles and a 4.3L engine, but the Frame and body will stay the same! Its just the drive-train that I'm changing! IMO, I think the stock drive train is weak and the engine is too small for what I want to do! Its what I want and nobody else! If you call it a Chevy or a Toyota I'm going to go to the Chevy and Toy BBS! But, I have a Zuk and its going to stay that way! Call it what you want! Thats my .02!
