ARB Bumper ???

I have been looking at bumpers for a while now. I am kinda leaning towards the ARB, I think it is my favorite. My question is, how does it mount? All the sites I have seen just list it as using "stock" mounting. Does this mean it mounts to the same plates on either side of the tube for the original bumper and thats it? My tires are kinda scrubbing that plate every now and again at full compression so I was thinking about taking those off. Anybody have any good up close pictures of this bumper mounted or can give a little more detail on its mounting system? Just for the record, I am not doubting its ruggedness, I just want to make sure I don't cut off something I might need to mount this bumper later.

Thanks!

I don't have a ARB bumper but as I see, the ARB bumper is fitted onto the end of the ladder frame and does not use the two side tube that holds the stock
bumper. So, if you get the ARB bumpers, you can cut off the tubes.

Let me know if I am wrong.

the ARB is one sweet bumper, the only drawback is price. But if you are going to spend 250 -300 for a decent bumper then the arb isnt that much more . There are four mounts, two that slide then bolt into the ends of your frame and the two brackets that bolt to the ends of tubes from the original bumper these can cut off or better yet used to help strenghten the bumper wich can be held solidly using the frame mounts,. p.s dont get caught wishing you had spent that exra $150 good luck

were not here for a long time were here for a good time

Thanks for all the replies. One follow up question though, how is the weight on these compared to the other bumpers. The look kind of hefty, which is a good thing as long as it isn't overkill on a stock engine. What kind of total weight am I looking at with say the ARB and a 6000lb - 8000lb winch on board?

Thanks again

Ronin,

i am doing a mobile-winch-bumper setup (f. and r.) as we speak.

My garage (call them my best friends) are doing this with 4x2" square-tubing (1/8" wall-thickness). They will be able to maintain the stock-look, in other words they will put the "coke-can" bumper over this setup - so no messy light-relocation worries,etc...

I will post piccies this weekend... the grand total (material, work, incl. wiring trough the frame rails, etc... is us$220,-(that's in chile, though))

this setup permits to run w/o winch, put the winch on the front bumper or on the rear.

advice me if you'd like more info... they should be done tomorrow

Yes, I did consider the C2 and C3 bumpers from calmini. They look nice too. I think I like the C2 one the best of those. I still have that one in mind as a choice. I think the thing I like about the ARB is the full frontal coverage. It is still a tough chioce though. I could always buy another samurai and get one of each bumper i guess;)

BTW, Yankee Tim, I still need to get you the measurements for those Suzuki Light guards for the Samurai. They got stuck in a box and tucked away in a dark corner of my closet while I was waiting to get my rig painted. I got em back out the other day, so I'll try to get you the measurements soon.

I really like the newest C3 being offered by Calmini - looks really nice, but I cannot offer any feedback on it's strength or durability. I am running the front Crawler from RRO - which is a different look all together but costs less than the Calmini and ARB bumpers and this thing is pretty damn stout and weighs in at 36 lbs (according to the UPS bill).

"Bombproof" bumpers is a trademark of another manufacturer, not Calmini. Calmini never claimed it was "bombproof", unless you can show me otherwise.

And all the claims of "bulletproof" and "bombproof" are marketing gags. Even I call stuff bulletproof, but yet I have a few hundred rounds of .223 SS109 "Green Tips", which burn thru 1/4" plate steel like a hot knife thru butter. It's a figure of speech.

Nothing is truly bullet or bombproof, and anyone who thinks it is, I have a bridge here in Brooklyn you might want to buy./wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Have ya checked out the Wheelers Off-Road front bumpers http://www.wheelersoffroad.com I think the ARB is a nice bumper but not as good as the Wheelers bumpers, IMOP! The ARB looks like it is too thin and cheep. For the money you would spend on a ARB you can get a Wheelers winch mount bumper and might have some leftover cash to get a winch. I had mine custom made to fit my 3" body lift and it is only 75lbs! I like that it has a spot for a licence plate because in Ohio you have to have a front plate. I have the winch mount on it and still need a winch to fill in the void space. hare is a pic for ya, you've might have seen it before. It also mounts to the frame and not the old bumper mounts! Very beefy!

Well, everyone has their own opinion of the ARB bumper and others that are available. My ARB has survived a roll, slamming into trees, winching out numerous Heaps, and has come away with only scratches and some gouges. The bumper was designed to mount in 4 places...the old mounts where the stock bumper goes and two holes that are already in the frame from the tow points. If you run larger tires and cut the front mounting points off like most of us do, the bumper still mounts to the frame nicely, and with a few added welds you can reinforce the frame to allow more strength.

The bumper is a heavier gauge steel than the ZUK frame.
So the choice boils down to the depth of your wallet..

Now if I can get free one for the ARB plug, it would be nice 8^}
