I have a 79 cj5 with a 304 and I have developed an antifreeze leak on the passenger side floorboard. On the firewall I can see a rail in the center that follows the arc of the bell housing and in the rail is where the antifreeze is flowing down the arc to the in side of the floorboard. I check the back of the engine and it's not wet. It's does do it all the time and it don't matter if it is cold or hot. It just does it whenever it wants. It's not the heater leaking either. Any Ideas?

Check your heater hoses where they enter the firewall. I have had trouble with leaks there before. The fittings on the heater core are for 5/8" heater hose. Thewater pump takes 3/4" heater hose. Sometimes they run 3/4" all the way to the heater core. This will usually result in a leak. You can try adding an extra hose clamp on each of the heater hoses. If it isn't leaking there, then it is your heater core.

Later,
Tom

PS I run a 3/4"-5/8" hose adapter on my line from the water pump to the core. You can find them in the "help" parts section at your local parts store.

The heater hose is too low. The top of the arc is about 7 inches higher then the heater hose and the top of the arc is where it is leaking.

1. Well HOP...
2. There's ONLY THREE places,
3 For coolant leak inside the tub: [*]The heater core (and it's outlet - Inlet line) [*]The Input/Output Heater Hoses [*]Between the heater hose and the heater core tubing.
4. So, may I suggest,
5. You pull off the heater hoses [*]Clean the inside of the hose of corrosion [*]Clean the heater core tubing [*]Apply sealant to the tubing [*]Slip NEW clamps onto the hoses [*]Slip the hoses over the tubing [*]RE-clamp with NEW clamps] [*]Tighten (Not over torque) the clamps.
6. Then clean up the mess and go for a ride.
7. If it's still leaking coolant...
8. It's the heater core.
