My jeep was broken into last night. second time in 4 months, two different cars. I'm looing for orginal ideas to stop this. My thought was to run 120 volts to the door handles. I do 240 if I new it wouldn't kill'em.

sorry to hear that

not to sound like an ass....but theft comes with owning a jeep......i had some assclown cut my back side window to see what was in there and all they had to do was check the door handle to see if it was lock......and it wasnt
.........if you have a soft top just dont leave anything in there that you dont want stolen...but you can get a perimiter alarm that will sound off if anyone gets so many feet from your jeep.......or you can invest in tuffy boxes and lock/bolt them to the jeep.....

Nothing really my wifes escort happened about 4 months ago.
they stole her radio. In mine the only thing they got was the face plate and left the rest of it. Just waiting for them to show back up for the other half. I guess the best way to deal with them. Is to put up beware of dog signs and no trepassing signs. Put the sheppard in the front yard. Hope who ever it is can run faster than she can. Wonderfull invention those underground fences are.I'm not tyring to sound like and a-hole just tired of it.

you know, think about this on a hard top cj.... they have fiberglass doors and metal hangles. If only mister thief would try to steal your jeep in his bare feet. It would be relatively easy to heat up the handles, hard part (I guess other than scrounging up a transformer and a big capacitor and hooking it all up) would be a way to insure good path to ground. For all your luck he would be wearing thick, heavy rubber boots!

Then again, you run out to the jeep in a mad rush to hit the beer factory before they close and next thing you know your whole arm is numb from fingers to shoulder. Sometimes the anti-thief stuff gets the rightful owner too. (how many times have YOU locked yourself out of YOUR car??)

oh and as for the voltage killing someone, it isn't so much dependant on voltage as it is current. I play with high voltage stuff and it doesn't bug me. What scares me is 480V. It is a low voltage, but generally high amperage. So when you screw up with it, chances are pretty good that not only will it bite, but it will bite hard.

I leave my doors unlocked. I never lock them. I figure if they will steal something and really want it they will get it. That layer of plastic isnt going to stop them. I would rather have them take whatever out through the door and leave my $700 top alone. Being that there is nothing in my jeep, I havent had a problem. A buddy of mine actually had someone steal his factory lower hard doors off his YJ.

yea I guess you don't want to really hurt someone.

We one like what your talking about to keep the bears out of the fish raceways. It was simply hooked up to a about 4-5 deepcycle batterys paralelled (sp?) together with a little (1 foot by 1 foot) solar panel to try and keep a charge. I would sting you a bit if you were to bump into it with bare hands. That was for a perimeter of about 200-250 yards or so.

I imagine if you were serious about something like this, it could be done, though I think for the effort, cost, and possibly liability (though their should be none in my opinion) it probably isn't worth your time. Why not wait in the bushes with a shotgun for the next one to walk up??

There used be to an auto taser type of thing out a few years ago. I'm not sure, but I think they were taken off the market. The basic concept was a club like device on the steering wheel with a built in stun device.

The best thing would probably be a good alarm that works when it should and draws alot of attention, mostly yours. It would be nice if you could wire it to remote into some flood lights around the house.

On another note, I've wondered about a pepper spray "bomb" that would flood the interior. Don't know the legalities of that, but might be worth looking into.

The absolute best anti theft device is to use a proximity alarm on the Jeep with a pageout system, silent and you catch th A$$hole in the act.

You would have to look at all possibilities of who is going to get shocked. I can picture the Jeep in a crowded parking lot, and soccer mom in her mini van next to you is trying to put the groceries in the mini van, and take the child out of the shopping cart, bumps the door handle, zap, drops child and sues the crap out of you. You lose your house, your jeep, yoour tools and everyhting else. I like the idea of shocking the thief, but you need it to get ONLY the thieves, especially in today's society. Unfortunately, you would probably have to advertise the fact that your Jeep was electrified, which would defeat the purpose, in order to make it ok. Then, I don't even know if that would work. I know it is illegal to booby-trap your house, I would assume that is the same for a vehicle.

You want something that is going to work all the time wether it is crowded or not, and something that is not going to affect the innocent soccer mom. Proximity alarm with pager is good. Best is a big mean looking dog or have an empty Jeep, or good strong lock boxes.

Good Luck
G'luck.

I guess I just let the sheppard roam free. The underground fence will stop her. I'll post beware of the dog signs. There might even be a little fun had with people walking by. Not knowing about the fence.

your best bet is to lock everything up.. get a tuffy console for that stereo... that is where mine is... nothing else in it..
give them nothing.. they'll want nothing..

when i had my 95 i had some jacka55 go in and dig through the console looking for stuff. i had the faceplate off of the stereo so that was not a problem. he did snatch my tic light (firefighter thingie in the window). i was more po'd that someone had invaded my jeep than the fact that they even took anything. the next night i sat on my porch with a twelve pack and waited. after about two beers i got bored so i started digging around my shed. i found a piece of old axle and suddenly got the bright idea that it was about the same diameter as my good ol m-40 sniper rifle....

i decided to run up the block to wally mart and grab one of those little laser pointer thingies. i set up an old sleeping bag to prop up the piece of axle shaft so that it was sticking through the bottom of the porch railing (i was on the 3rd floor). i took a piece of duct tape and stuck the laser pointer to the axle and centered it on the windshield. i then ran inside and scrawled a little note that basically read "if youcan read this i feel obliged to inform you that there is a high powered rifle aimed at your grape at this time, if you really need something that badly come to apartment 302 and i will happily help you out after i kick your butt. otherwise i highly reccomend that you get the hell out of my jeep before i aerate your skull. thank you and have a nice evening." needless to say there were no other larcenies from vehicles in front of my apartment building whilce several of the adjacent buildings were raped.

more recently i have left my jeep at my friend's shop while getting ready to do the 360 transplant and last night i stopped by to drop off my k&n and noticed that the center console had been ransacked. pretty bad when a cop's jeep gets tossed in the neighborhood where he works
anyway at least there is nothing worth stealing in there unless they thing they can get a few bucks for the radiator and fan in the back seat. plus this way, if i catch anyone near it when i'm at work i have a good excuse to thump em
