One more question on axles. If I wanted to swap in a pair of Dana 44's from an SJ into a '74 CJ, would I HAVE to narrow that axles? It looks like the SJ is 58 inches wide, the CJ is 53 inches wides. that is only 2 and a half inches farther out on each side (which wouldn't hurt my feeling being a little wider). Is there any reason that that wouldn't work? I would have to move the spring perches, would that interfere with the diff housing?

you will have to outboard your spring mounts on the front axle, becasue of the diff housing.

its easy to do if you can cut/weld.

the front SJ ( wag=narrowest) is about 61 inches wide, the rear ( same) is 59.

IM retrofitting some from a 76 wag front, and 80 wag rear into my 77 CJ5.

here is what my outboards hanger mounts look like
