An additional 1" of lift?

An additional 1\" of lift?

Hmmm, looking for 1 inch more of lift. Currently, I am running 4" Trailmaster, 33" AT ko's. A 1 inch body lift is always my last option, but what other options do I have? I really don't want to crantk up the T-bars. Can I get ball-joint spacers for the front? Will they work with a trailmaster lift? I can always get Old Man Emu rear coils with 1" of lift for the rear, so that isn't a problem. What do you think? Thanks in advance guys!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

If you already have the T/M 4" the OME coils won't be long enough, the only option aside from the body-lift is to go with the spacers, and either get some longer rear coils made-up or cut off the spring saddles and weld in some spacer cans or blocks then remount the saddles on top. This way you can adjust the amount of lift height you want, but that's only for the rear remember, you don't want to drive around looking like Starsky & Hutch!
One other thing if you deside to go the body-lift route wich in theory is probably your best bet, at least go with a 2", the price isn't much different, but 1" just doesn't seem justifiable for the money.

That's my 2 cents + GST!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

Actually, the OME coils will work because they are only 20 mm taller than stock. With sag, I am guessing that will most likely get me an inch. As for the Ball joint spacers, does anyone know if the moog ones provide any lift? Do these work with Trailmaster front end parts?

If I do have to go with the body lift, I will but a 2" kit and cut it down to 1" or so. Honestly, I don't want to have the look of a body lift, I think they look stupid. I just want a little extra room so I don't get any rubbing, and 1" will provide that.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

The OME coils are for a 3" lift if I remember correctly, so if you already have the 4" Trailmaster then...... what am I missing here? Also the OME coils are only 175 lbs per so even if the coil is 1" taller that doen't necessarily mean that they will sit you up another inch.
Give them a shot I guess, who am I to argue with ya!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

The TM kit uses spacers for the factory coils in the rear. The ome coils might lift you up a little more. Just dont do rancho coils for the rear. Buddy of mine tried this with his 93 TM equipped path in the last couple of weeks. This has his driveshaft at a little much of an angle. The bind causes him to lose speed the second he lets off the gas pedal (lol, worse than normal of course!) I was thinking of doing the extra lift on my 94 TM lifted path. Im beginning to think body lift also. Im afraid the TM lift and ball joint spacers are going to put too much stress on the front end. I have my torisons up just a little in the front to eliminate the sag from my winch/brushguard/skidplate. I beleive black diamond makes a 1" body lift that can be made to work for the 92-up paths with some longer bolts. Dick Cepek also has the lift lips, so the wheel-wells wont look ridiculous. Now if I can just get around this bumper brushguard gap problem with the body lift, Ill be fine! How are you running 33's on your truck? What wheel/backspacing are you running? I only have 32x11.50s with ample clearance. Keep us posted on what you do. Im curious to find out what else can be done here!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

Hey Wade, this is Brett. I had to create a new screen name b/c this stupid site wouldn't let me enter with my existing one for some reason. Anyhow, I recently got some 33 X 10.50 AT ko's for my truck. They do clear fine on the road, but hit when turning off-road. I'm still trying to sell it, but still having fun at the same time.

As for the body lift, it seems like a lot of work for only 1". Also, i didn't think about the driveshaft angles with adding one more inch of susp. lift in the rear with new coils. Hmmm, gotta think about this some more....

As for the tires, they are great. I don't know if you know, but I moved to Colorado last spring. The 'finder is ideal for wheeling out here, and I chose AT tires b/c it is never muddy here, and AT's are much better in the snow.

Have you done any more mods on your Pathy?

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

If your drive-shaft is binding on the crossmember, the crossmember can be notched-out to provide the necessary clearance. I did the same thing, and i't worked fine ever since.

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

Actually chris, where my buddy with the rancho coils is having his problem is at the tranny! The angle is a bit much, and it is binding the driveshaft to the pint that its slowing the truck down a good bit if he lets off the gas..its weird!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

Brett,
thought you were on the board someplace, but didnt know your name on here. Yeah, you told me last time we talked that you went to CO. Im sure you are enjoying it. The shaft angle is not a huge problem if you have some weight in teh back im sure, but my buddy has NO weight at all on the rear. Ive got 200 lbs of gear/stereo, and that bumper and full size spare. He is still running the leather clad donut. I would work much better with the coils probably since my rear end is squatted due to the weight. Overlander makes a set of 3/4" variable rate coils for us too, that might be worth checking into. Im going to get a set of the KO's next myself. They look awesome, and have a little more tread than my radial ats. As for the path, hes shod with Bushwhacker fender flares, Rancho Rs9000s, new eagle alloy wheels (1179s), built myself an intake, and did some poly control arm bushings since we talked last. You know me, never stopping the mods! :) Take it easy man!

Re: An additional 1\" of lift?

Has he tried replacing the idiot yoke with a slip-yoke. I might be wrong but I think it would also require to ad a spacer of extend the drive shaft, but this would give a little-more movement and soften the angle stress. The only other suggestion I can think of is to turn his real axle...
