Hey Guys, I am new to this board, but I have recently got on the kick of fixing up my truck.

I have a question in regard to Flowmasters American Thunder kit.

I just ordered a Dual Out the Sides kit which includes all of the tubing and a 70 Series Muffler.

I was wondering if anyone on here has one of these installed and whether they are happy with it. I know it probably won't be super loud, but how about performance increase?

I considered a 40 series muffler, but I heard that with an extended cab a 40 series would be too loud inside the truck.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yeah a flowmaster 40 series is kinda loud inside the cab. even the delta flow series. Thats what I have. Now what do you mean by "out the side"? expect it to be even louder if you have sidepipes. I went from running an open muffler (loud) to sidepipes (way louder). Having the 3" pipe after the muffler made my exhaust tone very very deep and loud. Kind of annoying but it had to be done for inspection purposes.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I bought the flowmaster kit that includes all of the pre mandrel bent tubing. It comes with dual tailpipes, they exit on the sides behind the wheels. Not dual out the rear like the Gibsons.

In any case Flowmaster says that bu nature the 70 series muffler is not very aggressive sounding, but with the addition of the dual tubes and the way they are bent it makes it sound better.

I guess I will find out next week, it finally shipped the other day from Summit Racing, it has been back ordered since the 29th of August. Unfortunately no one locally could even come close to their price.

Thanks again.

John,

What type of truck do you have? I also have a 97 with 5.7L, ext cab, short bed; and haven't been able to find the dual side-exit kit from Flowmaster. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know the part number(s) for the kit. Also, let us know how it sounds when installed.

Thanks!

Matt,

I have a 97 GMC Extended Cab Z71, the flowmaster part number on that kit is FLO-17261.

Summit Racing has the best price on it at $312. I am supposed to get it on Friday via UPS. I hope to have it installed by Monday. I will post to let you know how it sounds.

Ok so I had the Kit installed, and I have to dis agree with anyone who said it would not be loud at all. It is significantly louder than stock. My wife said she can now hear me coming from a block away.

It has a very nice sound, and a good feel when driving. The kit is very complete, comes with plenty of hangers and even comes with polished tips. For the price of $312 from Summit Racing this exhaust can't be beat. The kit is the Flowmaster dual out the Side Cat back American Thunder System. Part number FLO-17261. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants a nice aggressive tone and better acceleration, but has a small wallet.

Anyone who has a clue about working on cars can install it in about an hour. Very easy install.
