Wondering if my AMC 20 rear driveshaft will fit my new Dana 44 scout rear?
I have a 258 to a T-176 to a D300 to a AMC 20
I dont have it installed yet so measureing it is a lil tough
The driveshaft measures 23/26 now
Any help?

Simple, measure the AMC distance from the center of the axle to the center of the yoke. Now do the same for the Scout II D44. The difference is what you are looking for. If you don't have access to a Scout II D44, let me know, I have the AMC 20 sitting on top of the Scout D44 now, so it'll be easy to measure.

As to the u-joints, they are the same size.

i swapped a dana 44 from a wagoneer in place of my amc20. i had to change the yoke to fit the driveshaft u-joint but did not have to change driveshaft lengths.

Fer whatever it's worth...... I swapped out a 20 for a Scout 44...... The original D/S will work, but it's not 'right'. I used the original D/S for quite awhile, but never off-road. The problem is, that the Scout 44 diff is quite a bit smaller than the AMC 20. So, when you hook up the original D/S, the slip-joint on the D/S is stretched to its maximum length-limit. It works ok, on-road. But, off-road, the D/S will want to stretch some, and will likely force the slip splines through the 'grease-seal-retainer'. Even then, the D/S will probably not come apart. But, to do the job 'right', you need your D/S made longer.

OK, I finally got to measuring the differences between the narrow track AMC 20 and the Scout II D44. From the center of the axle tube to the center of the u-joint cap on the AMC 20 is 12.25", on the D44 it's 12.5". I measured this several times, and even enlisted JEEPNCHICK to help with the plumb bobs and tapes. The U-joints are the same size as well, so your driveshaft should bolt up. The measurements may be off by as much as 0.25", but no more than that.
