Is there an alternator on the market that will bolt up to a stock 258 mount? Just wondering so that I don't spend money on a an aftermarket one if I don't have to. BTW I am looking for one that will put out around 100 amps.

I have a 94 amp delco alt on my Jeep, NAPA part number 134356 for lifetime warrenty 213-4356 for 3 year warrenty. Since I had to dig through my receipts for a Spicer warrenty, I might as well find this part number for you.

Thanks, Ray

As long as you have a declo alt now you could go with an alt from a 91 Wagoneer which is a small case 94Amp model. That one should bolt right in.
Another choice is one from an 85 corvette which I think is 120Amp but it is the bigger case version. Might take a bit of bracket bending to get it to work.

i bought one for a chevy truck that is a 107amp. eventhough i run a ford moter i decided to stick with the delco altenator that my jeep was already wired for. yes jeeps came with gm altenators. i just wish i could remember what year truck i got it for. it was probably for an 80's model but i'm not sure. just go to the parts store and have them search around in those nifty computers that they use. that is all i did. hope this helps.

oh yeah make sure you carry your old one along so you can use it for comparison and for a turn in. gm also used an altinator that looks the same but is larger and if you have yours to compare it with then you'll know.

I have a qustion- is this for the stock mount that has the York bolted to the top (lower passenger side of engine), the stock mount like on a 1989 YJ (upper passenger side of engine), or the stock mount circa '74(lower drivers side of engine)? I would like to run dual alternators on my DJ, one to power the battery and one to power a welder.

Can you give me the measurements from hole to hole on the 120 AMP that you have? I have heard that it should be around 7 3/4 inches, but the alt (65 Amp delco) that I have right now is around 7 inches. This is the stock alt that came on my 73 CJ5. Thanks

Re: Alternator Upgrade ATTN Mindbender

If all else fails, you can take your to an auto electric shop, and they can rewind it to whatever output you want. I took mine in, and they built it to 130 amps. I think it was around $120, so the Corvette option sounds great. I wish I would've known that one.

Re: Alternator Upgrade ATTN Mindbender

Are all the alternators on Jeeps interchangable despite model year? Bolt bolt-in and plug-in? At least for the I-6s.

Restoring a '74 DJ-5C /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif Its missing the alternator. At first the Ammeter guage just didn't work but now its missing an alternator /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
