My alternator puked on itself yesterday and I was looking for the most powerful bolt-in replacement for her. I'm considering the mean green, but I wanted to save some green if possible.

Check my post "alternator burned up".
One of the guys suggested taking that alternator to a parts store and asking for the highest output in that case size. May help.

Can you fix it?

I had a used one from my wife's '83 Malibu w/305 and air. 86 amps I think. The hardware to mount is metric but it is slightly smaller than the hardware for the Jeep. I used a couple of flat washers...everything A. O.K.

I hesitate to mention this because I can't remember where I found the link (I think it was a previous post on this board), but it indicated that the alternator from a mid 80's Corvette would fit in a YJ (don't know which engine) and was rated at 100 amps. It might be worth looking into.
