advice on buying \'99-\'00 GC

I'm new to Jeep and am not familiar with what engine/x-fer case/x-mission/axles/suspension to look for.

Is there a way to "read" the VIN to get this info?

This GC will be a DD with some mild off-roading .
Thanks,Dan.

Was the aluminum Dana 44 put on the "99-"00 WJ as wellas the xj...or just a steel one?

Thanks for all the help!~ (sic)......And; maybe I'll post something for sale, too.

It could be that no one knows the answer to your question. Thats no reason to get bitter.
Re: advice on buying \'99-\'00 GC

I have owned GC's since 1993 and do not know the answers. Since they have all been DD, I only am concerned that the engine starts and the tires turn. What is underneath has never been something I needed to know.
Sorry I can't help. Research the boards, the manuals, or the dealers.
Or just go to Paris. Jimmy Buffett says that is where to go to find answers to questions that bother you so.

my advice is stick with the 6. It's tried and true.
Re: advice on buying \'99-\'00 GC

I would slightly disagree on the "stay with the 6"

Yeah, it's a solid engine, but the V8 has signifigantly better power and it's about as stout and reliable as you could hope to find.
