I was on a long trip and had it in 4wd for about 50 miles and I couldn't switch back to 2wd. I had to stop and back up - put it in reverse then drive then reverse etc quite bit until it popped into 2wd. Pain in the ASS...

The lever was hitting the console so I carved it a little for more clearance but that didn't help.

Anybody ever adjusted the xfer case linkage - I'm looking for tips here

thanks...

I thik it isnt that the linkage has gone out of adjustment, unless youve had the t-case out.
but actually the chain and sprockets are worn inside the case and take a little coaxing -backing up and such - to switch out of 4WD.
My 1992 with selectrac has about 170K miles, and I have the same problem comming out of part time 4WD, but no problems going from 2WD to full time 4WD (which passes over part time to get there) or from full time to part time. Low is easy enough since I'm using that for moving trailer in the rough and tight yard, and will do enough backing anf forwarding to get from the low range back to 2WD high or full time 4WD.

in short - (too late I know), I think it is wear and tear inside the case, not the linkage.

I also have the SelecTrac, and I love it.

I hope there is nothing worn, the rig only has 87k on the ticker and these should go 2-300k before wearing out.
I put synthetic in the t-case about 6 months ago, maybe I should drain it to see if there is anything to see. I've heard these are expensive cases to fix, but I don't know for sure.

I got mine at less than 130K miles, and it was a little sticky then, and fluid change didnt help, and I was hoping it would.
Possibly a previous ownr drove in part tine 4WD on drive roads and helped stretch the chain or something - I don't know.

My plan is to ge tthe parts and install new seals, chain and sprokets, and the Terra 2WD Low kit, and if I decide to do a big lift, I'll eliminate the slipyoke at the same time (as suggested by fellow jeeper on this board).
I have read the time to replace the seals and chain and sprokets, including removal and reinstal of the t-case is a Saturday if everything goes well.

You can adjust it to see if it will help, if you crawl underneath you will see the linkage on the drivers side. There will be a small bolt on a long rod which you can loosen and move forward or backward slightly to adjust. Do it in increments so you don't throw it way out of wack. Tighten and enjoy!
