I Am going to put on a mechanical water gauge and i am wondering where is the best place to attach the fitting to the engine. I want to keep the Original working also and that is attached to the Thermostat housing. This is a 225 V6. I have two fittings on the back of the intake manifold and I got rid of my heater so the original heater openings can be used.

I think the best spot for a temperature gage is in the front of the intake manifold, in the crossover where the water neck & thermostat are.
My reasons for saying that are:
1. In the outside of the head, temp gauges often read wrong because of the exhaust port heat in the head.
2. In the back of the intake manifold the water hasn't run the length of the heads, so it isn't up to temperature yet.
3. In the water pump port the water is out of the engine, and loosing temperature in the water pump.
