Has anyone upgraded an early CJ7 or a CJ5 that came with only lap belts to a 3 point selt belt?

I'm guessing the straight forward approach of simply drilling a "third point" in the roll bar is the usual approach. How much does this weaken the roll bar, which is already thinner than a later CJ7 rollbar? And what size & grade of bolts are people using for this?

Well, your profile is blank still. Where are you and what have you got.

On my cj7, I swapped the fender mounted roll bar for one from a YJ. I then used TJ seat belts with a little modification.

The vehicle in question is a 77 CJ7. And it is located in (beautiful) Columbia, SC.

I read through the posting LEVE and I *really* like his muffler bracket approach as I'm pretty opposed to any holes that aren't necessary.

But I would be very interested in the specifics of actually doing a role bar replacement.

Mine was easy. I unbolted the roll bar and put the bolts back in so there were no unfilled holes. I then set the YJ roll bar in place, marked the locations of the holes and drilled them. Then I bolted it down with new hardware including large washers behind the body. For the seat belts, I modified them to mount to the same point as the stock lap belt.
