well, i took that day off to go and work on finishing the engine. al was great until i sat there for a few hours banging my head against the bumper
wondering how the heck the alternator was supposed to fit on this bracket and how the bracket was supposed to bolt onto the engine. problem was quickly solved when i found a waggy to llok at. apparently the bracket that i was trying to figure out was a power steering bracket and it does not work so well with the alternator
at any rate it took me the entire afternoon to figure out that i have no alternator bracket and that the bracket that i have for the york is ridiculously large and probably won't work either. if anyone knows where i can find these brackets or happens to have on elaying around i'd buy you a
next time paths crossed
thanks. all i have left is to get the alternator mounted, the timing about set, the rest of the wiring hooked up, the radiator in, the fan in and wired and we'll be ready to fire it up (then of course i have to get the carb set, and the jeep over to my exhaust guy to get the pipes put on.) anyway any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

as for the alt bracket, do you mean the adjustment bracket? I am pretty sure I have one of them laying in the junk bin.

As for the york, I was thinking there was only one style for the AMC 8's. The one I have looks like it will be a tight fit and the alt will get stuffed way down on the bottom of the block, but I think it will work.

Do you have pics of your york mount?
Let me know what alt bracket you need, I will give you mine if its what your missing.

As for the alt, I don't have a picture, but essentialy you have one long through bolt (with about a 2 1/2 inch or so sleeve, that goes through the alt to the block, and then on the bottom there is the cutout for the adjustment in the alt (it is attached to the block with one bolt). That is only mount I have seen for the AMC 8's. If you need that adjustment piece I think I have one.

I will take a pic of my york mount as well and see how they compare. Mine came off a waggy as well. Be interesting to see if they are different.

Same here...
FWIW, My alt was swapped for GM "1 wire" (yeah, yeah, I know it takes 2...), but I used the old mounts. One long bolt with spacer into the block (head) and one short bolt thru the sliding adjustment rail. Seems like I had to drill the top hole on the alt. tolet the bolt go thru...

Adjustment Rail!!! I knew there was a word I was looking for!! I just slapped a Delco internally reged alt as well, and yes the upper bolt hole had to be reamed abit. On mine (came off a 80 something GMC bucket truck) I also had to make a bigger sleeve, and had to slightly shim the lower half of the alt to line it up with the adjustment rail.

oh and as far as the york bracket...

the one that i have is absolutely huge, it has all sorts of legs or arns or whatever, the one that i looked at in the waggy today looked like it was much more compact and actually fit. i cannot even fathom how this thing will fit on my little 360. ill put up some pics tomorrow or the next.

does the strange looking york bracket you have have a pulley on it?

I pulled one from a late 70s wag that had aftermarket AC installed on it at sometime, and it had a strange looking bracket that mounted the YORK in the normal spot, BUT it was upright, and had a idler pulley.

Ive also got some AMC V8 alt bracket set if you still need it, its for a truck without AC though ( assuming the factory bracket is used)

oh yeah, that pic IRJPR posted, thats about half of the factory mounting setup, there is a triangular bracket on top of the york also that ties to the intake manifold, and a different alternator upper bracket I think.

the alt brackets can be made to work with some washers Ive been told.

i can scavenge the flat triangular piece from another motor for the top that ties into the intake, the bracket that i have has a flat spot on top for mounting with four rubber bushings and then another piece that sticks off of that that has two more rubber bushings, then it has like three huge "arms" that come off of the mount that go all directions. there was no idler pulley on the thing.
