94 YJ 2.5L Tranny Grinding?

My 94 YJ (2.5L) has started "grinding" when I shift it into 3rd gear. It seems to work fine, if I shift it slowly into 3rd gear (allowing the syncro's to sync?) but while accelerating rapidly, and doing a quicker shift, the gears clash and grind prior to engaging. Is this a common problem of this transmission (77K miles, well maintained, bone stock)? I'm assuming the syncro's are shot. Also, would the 33 inch BFG's installed have caused this premature wear? (I know, I know, 33's on a 4-popper, I'm an idiot!) Any ideas?

I have a similar problem shifting into second on my 95 YJ (2.5L) and have heard of others with similar problems. It's OK as long as I'm comletely off of the gas before I push the clutch in. I think this subject has come up before, you might try searching previous posts.

Mine also "clashes" a little going into 2nd, but 3rd is pretty bad. I've got to push the clutch in, wait for a second, then ease the tranny into 3rd or else "crunch"! I've been told this is a syncro problem, and the transmission I've got is known to have this trouble. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

I get the same thing, when it is cold or if you put it in nutral and then try to shift into first. I have to "row down" throught the gears 3-2-1 to get it into first. I also get grinding when shifting into second. Check out the petition a member in my club has going, it is for AX-5, AX-15 and the new TJ NV3500.

I'm in there under members, although my specs need to be updated (new lift and lockers)
