·I have had a 92 Ford Explorer 4x4 for about 4 years now. About 3 years ago the transmission was rebuilt. A few weeks ago my transmission went again. We were cruising along the highway and something went so now it no longer goes in any direction and all the fluid drained out of the transmission.
The reason I am posting is because My truck has always had engine and transmission problems since I've had it. I am looking for any recommendations on a replacement engine and transmission. It currently has the 4.0L Pushrod engine and a A4LD transmission. What it take to get this up to a V8 as far as transmission replacement and what engine would anybody recommend.
What have you heard if anything about replacing the engine in a 92 with a V8, about it fitting or engine mounting problems. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Or would I just be wasting my time and money. I'm already at the point where I'm not sure this truck is worth the trouble of keeping. I am interested because it would likely be cheaper than anything else I would want to replace it with.
