\'91 K2500 no start

Hi,
Need some help. Just put a reman 350 into my truck five days ago. Initial start-up went fine. Day one, truck ran and started fine. Day two, truck cranked longer than usual before firing up. Day three, truck cranked for aprox. 10 seconds three separate times before firing up...after the engine was warm it started fine...let the truck sit for about 3 hours, then tried to restart, cranked but no fire. ( the key was still on) I popped the hood and started to pull a plug wire when i heard a popping/hissing and saw smoke then black goop ooze from the bottom of the coil.

I have since: replaced the coil, replaced the ign. module, and then replaced the dist. (which was replaced when I did the motor).

The coil has 12.7 v at the black connector with the key on.
What now?
Help

Did you make sure to re-hook the engine ground? Might be a good idea if not, I'm unsure if that would smoke your coil but it could burn wires without it... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks for the reply Tim,
I purchased a new ground strap when the engine went in because the old one was toast.

Sounds like you got something crossed somewhere.I just put headers on my van. When I got done it started fine but would die after about 15 seconds and the battery was smokin'.Finally found that the main positive wire running to the starter got laid against one of the headers and was shorting out.Dam vans can't see nothing no room.
