Just recently was stranded by my Jeep out of state, the thing wont fire up at all , just turns over,it has correct fuel pressure and as far as i can tell good spark, replaced the coil and the battery, had control module tested and i am totaly out of ideas. Almost as if the timing is off enough to where it wont start up. Anyone had this problem or have any suggestions on a resolution?

Thanks,

Ragey

It sounds like your CPS (crankshaft positioning sensor). Its located on the tranny and hard to get to. You should check the connecter (3 wire) its near the back of the valve cover. Just brush it out and make sure the connections are clean. Ive heard that Jeep technicians at the dealer usually just cut the connector off and solder the wires together. Also, after you clean the connector, make sure you zip tie the cables up and out of the way. I had mine slowly fray until it was totally cut. Left me stranded. Good luck with that, hopefully its an easy fix.

Is the CPS a sensor that can slowly fail over time , or something that dies completely at once? This thing ran fine the night before and went to start it in the morning and it hasnt ran since. I had someone else tell me there wouldnt be any spark if the CPS sensor was bad, is that necessarily true?

Or it causes hard starts and erratic idling for some time. Sometimes you can get it to work by just disconnecting and connecting again. But it's prone to give up soon....
