·I am looking at a 90 Chevy Cheyenne, 4x4, Auto. with the v6. I was wandering what is the general opinion of these motors? Reliability, towing, plowing, etc? I would appreciate any & all replies.

Usually, the overall opinion is that a v6 in a fullsize is like a condom with a hole in it, ie-useless. You were probably thinking it would be easier on gas mileage, and to a point your theory is correct except that the V6 has a lot less power therefore is must work harder to get you where your going.
Towing with it would be worthless because the engine would have to work really hard to keep you going.
Plowing might be ok if you get some low gears in it or keep the TC in low range and in first gear.
The 4.3 it's self is good long lasting motor in the S-10 size vehicles but in a fullsize I wouldn't think that it would be a good highmileage motor.
If you can geta hold of a guy on here that's name is "Sparty" he could probably give you some good advice.

sparty can give you no more info. i now have his truck. it is a c1500 with the 4.3 nd the auto trans. it now has 124K miles on it and has no problem towing. i regularly haul trailers filled with gravel, other vehicles and many oats. never had a problem.
my pops has a 96 cheyanne 4X4 with the 4.3 and he just hit 190K. the engines are sound, and as with any engine, proper maintenace does more for the engine than the engine itself does.
with that said, it definately has less power than my vortec 350 did. i havent had any prolems though and dont forsee any. as for plowing, it would be fine for residential, but for comercial plowing, i think you'd want something with a bit more grunt to it.

I've never driven a fullsize truck with a TBI V6. However my '01 has the 4.3 and the only complaint i have with it is that is sounds like it has no balls. I have towed a few pretty loaded trailers with it w/o a problem, still had pleanty of power. Decide if it has enough power for what you need it for and go from there. Mine gets good mpg and runs the same RPMs as a V8 does, so it doesnt really work harder.

I had a 91 1500 work truck with a TBI 4.3 and it never felt underpowered, even when towing. To be honest it didn't feel a whole lot less powerful than my current 350, and was just as reliable. And with uncapped exhaust it sounded pretty mean. Almost forgot, the truck had 175k miles when I sold it and it still ran like a top.
