'88 NP 231 vs. '98 NP231

Has there been any changes to the newer 231's that allow for the front driveshaft turning all the time (like the TJ's) or can my '88 NP 231 work like this as well without any adverse affect.

Actually, having the front driveshaft turning helps the transfer case. When the front output is still, a bearing/bushing somewhere has to spin between the still part and the moving part for the rear. With the front driveshaft spinning, everything is in motion.
