Hello I have a lot of Jeeps & hang out in the jeep forum ...

Never owned a big Dodge till this weekend ,, Think its a W-150 half ton.. It has a snow plow with it & the guy I bought it from used it 2 yrs to do parking lots,,, The guy he bought it from did his driveway only...

Why would my Sterring wheel have 6 to 8 inchs of play ,,, Its power sterring & runs down the road str-8,,, but it has the 6 to 8 inchs of play in the wheel back & forth ,,,
Its a 318 with automatic & 4 wheel drive,, Stock rims with 30x9.50 tires,,,

Could be a number of things. Get someone to move the wheel back and forth while you look to see what moves and feel for "play" in the parts. Especially look for loose nuts on the tierods! (you wouldn't believe how many I've seen that were so loose I could remove them with my fingers!)

its probly the steering pot coupler on the end of the steering column shaft / theres a HOWTO fix it on RCC [www.ramchargercentral.com]

well adjusting the steering box is NOT recommended unless its the steering box that is found to be loose / and most of the time its not the box / and should only be adjusted by someone that knows what there do,in / because you can destroy it by over adjusting it / it usaully turns out to be the steering coupler if you read the replys above and follow the link / also loose tie rods and bad ball joints / you need to determine were the looseness is come,in from and fix them first and adjust the box at the very last
