Not to get the bullnose guys upset as I've talked with a few of you about getting a front clip but this is in my backyard and cheap. This postal front will fit my 73, yes?

DJ5 What else, besides the 232, should I hack out of it? I'm looking to do a quick butcher and tow away on it unless any of you guys want something off of it.

Thanks!

Actually looking at the pics of it the front fenders are the earlier shorter style so while they are adaptable to your 73 you will either have to lengthen them about 4-6 inches or move your grille back which wont work with an AMC motor. You could however use the grille and a pair of later CJ7 or YJ fenders for extra engine room. Also the rear should be a Dana 44 possibly with a limited slip, lots of postals had that option.

If it has the 232 in it, then it`s the longer version. An I-6 won`t fit in the short one.Keep it.The rear axleWould be a d-44, maybe with a trackloc 3.73 or 4.27 gears. Keep it.
The front end is one that is sought after by the dj guys, cause they are just like a dana 30 with ball joints. The later version used crappy king pins.Keep it and put it on Ebay. The trans is probably a 2 spd torque flite type. If its a 3 spd, keep it and put it on ebay. The amc guys will snatch it up.All the tie rods are just like a d-30, as are the knuckles. The rims would be 14" 5 on 5 1/2.These are kinda hard to find.

I got curious about this and checked my 73 that has an I-6.
Using the rear of the valve cover as a reference, this surface is on the same plane as the surface where the fenders bolt on.The adapter for the trans is behind this. From the fender mounting surface, my engine is 31 1/2" to the tips of the fan blades so if on the DJ, you have at least 32 1/2 from the fender mounting surface to the radiator, it should work. Let us know.

Man you bullnose guys are crazy! Im trying to figure out whats going on in this post. Are you saying that the front end of that postal unit will bolt to the front of a bullnose. Making this look like a true jeep.
. The reason why is I have a buddie that would love to do this, What years are required for the transplant is it just a bolt on?

I used YJ fenders and a CJ grille and hood on my 72 to swap fronts. You can use the longer CJ fenders too but I found the YJ fenders easier to use TJ flares on and to mate up to my tub with the rockers chopped off.

Yeah CJ and YJ fenders would end about 6 inches higher than the Commando tub and don't have the flare built into the bottom like stock Commando fenders so it would look a little off but I would think something could be made up to match them better if he wanted to keep the full rocker..

dont let the left over go to scrap as the postal drivers love those parts so run a add before you throw anyaway as they are working on a dieing breed just like us as all of them got scraped at the end as the goverment would not sell them . so there are alot of people tring to keep theres patched together as the only other choice is the high priced specialty wrecking yards. also alot of people are after the frames if it is good as it is a perfect replacement for early cjs and flat fenders as they were stronger and boxed farther than stock ones .
