Have a similar question, I found a 71 scout with dana's front and rear, the id tag wasn't there but I was assuming since it is a 4 cylinder that it was high (number like 4.11). Also are there any spec sites on scouts, cause it also looked like it had a dana 300. thanks Mike

It is also a manual tranny if that matters in guessing the gears, also what tranny was used in 71?

well thanks for all the help on a post, for future refrence many 4 cylinders have 427 gears and the six I looked at had 3.73's.

the 71 scout whould have a dana 30 up front and 44 in the rear the 4 also came with 3.73 grears with a 4 speed as that is what I have in my 68.

nope the one I have looked at has 44's front and rear.

A drum brake Dana 44 was optional for 71-73 Scout IIs, but I think it uses the small '44 U-joints. '44 rear was standard.
