I had lots of fun crashing my brains out but eventually there wasn't enough bike left to pass tech inspection so I bought a brand fire new '87 600 Hurricane. Also note the new boots.

Hey Kyron, nice ta see ya.
Anyway, I thrashed the XL until I got tired of last place and then sold it as a mooring for my buddies boat. I roadraced the next season, but when winter rolled around I longed for that bittersweet sting of frostbite and the icy oval. No ride and roadrace broke so I did what any self respecting biker would do, run what ya brung. I decided to try the Hurricane out on the frosty flat track. The first few days were ugly but I got it figured out. Big, big tires, wide MX bars for better leverage and no more wasted time shifting. The bike had tons of power so I'd launch in 3rd gear at 10 grand. She'd light up the rear tire and lift the front at the same time and spin all the way to the first turn. I'd get the holeshot every time but turning was a different story. I'd chop off the gas, slam it sideways and whack the throttle and steer with the gas. It stuck pretty good, I could lean it over farther on the ice than I could on pavement, but it was a heavy mutha compared to the bikes I was runnin' with and I'd be mid pack heading onto the back straight. Still in 3rd gear(I never shifted, didn't need to) I'd slide back on the seat comin'outta 2 and the tire would start to hook up and lift the front again. I'd blow by everybody and come into 3 with some serious speed. Then I'd wrestle it around the turn and as long as I hung on 'till the end the other scoots couldn't keep up. One big problem during the race was avoiding the huge rut I'd dig off the line on the front straight. After a couple of starts the track was mighty chewed up. I ran the full season and took 1st overall. I got comfortably sliding full lock around the turns with feet up most of the way and liked the setup so much that I roadraced the bike with the MX bars the following spring. It was one of my best RR seasons and I was hangin' her ass out all over the place and lovin' it.

Well, I can honestly say they worked as good as they looked. Also noteworthy is the front end transplanted from my Kawi 400 triple and the painstakingly detailed wheels. It was always a crowd pleaser until they saw how slow it was.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and the track officials told me that my bike was too ugly to race next season so, being race broke, I semi retired. I headed up to work in the western arctic for awhile and came back with a sock full of money and bought all new gear and ran that 'till I retired in '92. I was gonna ice race this rig too but somebody offered me too much money for it so my road and ice racing careers ended the same year. Now I just ride for the hell of it, the way it should be. My dirt riding made me a better road racer, which made me a better ice racer, which made me a better sno-mo-bike rider, which makes me a better person up here - 'cause the chicks dig it.
What else do you need to be happy? Well, I'll tell ya - publicity. Check out the upcoming January issue of Cycle Canada for my W Rctic article. Now I've been blabbing so much in this forum that it'll be old news to you guys, but there'll be nice shiny pictures....

No problem Kyron, if you can't find one I'll mail ya a copy.
Cool that you raced in highschool. What happened after 2 years? Did you break the bank, or your body, or both, or was it the bride?
It must've been the bank or the bride, cause trophies dull the pain.
Here's a cool shot of a knee injury a couple of years ago. No trophy for this but I did make The Workers Compensation Board "Hits of the Week". It's all good.
I better put up the matching set so you get the complete picture.
Here's the ride to see the doc shot.

The chick situation is desperate. You pretty much have'ta hang out at the airport to catch one before the vultures start circling.
How in the heck did you hear about Salty Dog???? A few of my pals up here are musicians. Andrew Malloy, Jimmy Inch, and Michael Doyle make up a local band called the Northern Ramblers. They have a few CD's out together and have some solo CD's as well. All 3 of them have recording gear and produce their own stuff. They also book bands to play in town and have little sidelines. Andrew and Jimmy formed companies. Andrew is Salty Dog Promotions and Jimmy is Brickyard Entertainment. He is moving back to Halifax next year and has a business partner (Glen)there running things now. Glen and Jim were in a band called "Highland Heights" and toured Canada for a coupla years and have a couple of CD's out. A few times a year Jimmy books gigs in town for a band called Halifax Pier. There's really no such band, it's our very own Jimmy Inch getting his buddies up, Blane, the lead singer from "Clam Chowder" and Glen, the lead Guitar player from "Rant" and putting shows on all week. They are coming up soon, Dec 5 for another week. They were here a few months ago and Halifax Pier recorded a CD in Jim's studio and it's on the market now. Jim's website is www.jimmieinch.com. If you check it out you'll see his new bambino, Adam, who I was babysitting last night to give the folks a break and start him thinking about bikes. Even though he doesn't ride, Jim is my best bud, and I'm taking 6 weeks off next summer to help build his house. Maybe I'll get a chance to drag that bad knee around Shubenacadie one last time.
I'm not sure when the CC mag will be in the stands but it's definitely the January issue. They emailed to tell me and wanted my mailing address. Either they're going to semd me money or they're coming up for a ride.
Here's a pic of Mike(left) and Jim(other left) playing at the music festival in Yellowknife last year.

And speaking of New Years Eve, I going to be in Kamloops for a few days over the holidays. Friends of mine(the ones who got search and rescue rollin' and saved my butt) bought a pad there and are gettin' hitched on NYE. Are you anywhere handy to Kamloops and do you think there'll be enough snow for me to go for a decent ride when I get there?
