Been a while since I've posted.

Just wanted to get the word out though. In recent months we've been plagued with illegal dumping at the trailhead of Short Mountain. Not your average dumping either. Seems some of the local Meth cooks have been taking their by-products out to the woods & dumping/burning them.

Anyone who has seen any of the pics. I've posted has seen Short Mtn.. That's where we do about 90% of our riding. However, in the last couple of months, the county sheriff's departmnet has been trying to close the road that leads there. Crank-heads have been going up there to dump there sh!t.

We went to the sheriff's dept. & asked to keep the road open because of the high traffic it recieves from all the 4-wheelers. We asked for more patrols of the area, but all we got was them telling us it'd be easier to close off the road.

I chatted with a member of this board about the situation & we discussed setting up a watch over the area. For several nights, a group of people went up & hid in the woods with a video camera. Armed with videotape, they returned to the sheriff. As a result, 6 people have been arrested for manufacture of meth & illegal dumping.

Thanks to a group of concerned 4x4ers, Short Mountain will remain open. Around 100 people go there every weekend to enjoy the trails. Because of them, we all get to reap the benefits.

Thank you (you know who you are)

Brad.

I LOVE to hear stuff like that. Nothing is better than hearing about regular folks making a difference. I think there is way too many passive people that think there is nothing they can do. This is proof that ANYONE can do it and there is power in numbers!.

Bravo to ya'll........!

YOU ARE AWESOME!

I am so happy to read a story like this one. I am so proud of you! YOU ARE AWESOME! I wish I knew somebody who could get you folks some recognition and reward for what you just did. On my part, you helped strengthen and restore my faith in fundamental American values. That is what makes this country so great. It is little people, ordinary people with regular lives standing up to tyranny (in whatever form it may be) and saying, "We ain't gonna take this sh*t!"

And, you people are proof positive people are still alive today to do the same thing. Because let's face it, it's those rogue a**holes with their meth and their trash that are spoiling our rights for all of us. If we don't have some guts and take some risks and stand up to them, then THEY rule--not US!

So, God BlessYou for your courage and let's hope you all were very well armed, locked, loaded and downright dangerous on your videocam stakeout.

You guys are an inspiration to the rest of us!

Kudos for your folk there. Good job. This makes me very proud of the 4 wheelers for the job that they have done. Now if we can get more people involed in this type of action, more of the SH*t would be off the street Thanks yall for your actions.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. All those involved know what they have done, no press or recognition is needed. That's a good way to catch a bullet.

The important thing is that one of the best trail riding places will stay open because of the people that use & cherish the land. The people that ride there knew what was going on & knew what was about to happen. The cops didn't want to put forth the extra effort because they said it's a county wide problem, not just on Short Mtn. Sad thing is, this was the only road they were talking about closing.

Just goes to show you, stand up for what you want-------or you just might lose it.

Damn geekers!

Gongrats on the bust! It's great to hear about people caring enough about there community to actually do something about it!

A little News paper write up might be a good thing though. It might be a good way to get the word out to all the rest of the stupid druggies that your riding area probably wouldn't be a good place to dump their stuff. Cuz you know, as soon as the heat wears off, people are going to start dumping there again.
I have an older brother that's a State Trooper here in Indiana, and I've learned from him that most druggies are creatures of habbit. Once they get used to a place, they will go back and use it again and again, even if they get caught once, cuz they don't ever thing they'll get nailed twice! Stoopid people!

here in CA they just find (or dont find an endangered species after a large river bar party out of controle they suddenly found (or didnt find) snowy plovers there now they want it closed during their nesting season 9 months of the year (like it would be open the other 3 months) they are claiming this shore bird is nesting 15 + miles up the river

the funny thing is when we asked about them finding them there responce was they haddnt ever found them there because they had never looked (makes me wonder where else they havent looked)

Not just Sequoia, it's happening all over in Sou Cal. The BAD thing is that ordinary people (hikers for now, they plant the stuff far away from the few wheeling routes) are getting SHOT for wandering through the place randomly. I don't care about pot, make it legal or whatever, I just have an issue with getting shot for hanging out in public lands... Kudos to the Short Mountain wheelers, we should do something like that in CA!

Good job, congratulations! But I wonder why some of the
local police couldn't have given up a few days of handing
out traffic tickets and done the same.

They could have made the arrest on the spot instead of
having to round up the bandits later.

Same thing in northern California.Hunters seem to be most
at risk as they get off the beaten path more than any other
group.I'd like to see CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana
Planting)concentrate on the national forests and other
public lands.Alas it's more profitable to bust people
growing on their own property because it can be
confiscated and sold.

As we digress...

Did you see how the moonshiners hid in the hills cutting down public forests to fire the stills during prohibition? Did you see how ruthless the rum runners were?

Unfortunately, this is the fall out from prohibition of almost any vice, be it beer, pot, coke or prostitution for that matter. Prohibition doesn't don't stop the inate human desire to feel "good", it only leaves it unregulated and forced into the seedy underworld, where reason and decency have no place.

Danny, if you would like to hear more of this subject that I spent decades trying to correct, I'd love to, over an unprohibited bottle or beer (or 2 or 8), around a fireside, at this year's Gon Zookin'.

Will you finally make it?

The meth problem is getting way outta hand. Here in GA it is just crazy. I thought it was strange when the guy 3 houses down from me painted all the windows in his garage. I quess the undercover cop that lives 2 houses down from him did too because about a week later he was raided and 6 people arrested and a bunch of meth and the cooking stuff was found. Thing is i live in a very nice neighborhood its not like i live in the hood. Just goes to show how crazy this stuff is getting , we have even had a couple of rolling meth labs busted recently.
Oh yeah the guy got evicted too on christmas eve. wonder if he stil thinks the meth was a wise enterprise to get involved in.
