Transmission went up at 158K, and was replaced (2/3/03)
A week or so ago transmission was slipping once again.. and the picture tells the story...

42 re isnt that bad its just got to much electrical junk on it i wished mine had the xj tranny but as long as you change your fluid religously and get a tranny cooler you might want to see if you can get a 180 thermostsat to. I bought mine not knowing about the problems with the 42re and when i found out about it i got a tranny cooler have not had a problem yet but a speed sensor

it seems like Chrysler has had some issues with its transmissions, like in the Grand Cherokee. Then again i've heard horror stories from guys with mid 90s Dodge Rams. I guess a lot of the problems are electrical. i don't think i'll buy a Grand Cherokee. But don't the 4.0 liter grands use the same engine and tranny as the last XJs?

Nope half way thru 93 they when 42r ,i got lucky and mine is the xj trans !

I have a 180 t-stat, and have a factory tranny cooler, my ZJ has the factory towing package with the big aluminum radiator and tranny cooler, other than 6 water pumps, i have not had any cooling problems...


the saying is true... Jeeps are hazardous to your wallet

163K miles and still running strong...

Guess I should start saving to replace my pos ZJ tranny
