i have a borg-warner 4 spd trany. i think it is a t-19 but the number is scratched off. my question is what axle gears would work best for both off road and on road usage. i do half on road time and half off road. i want to have low enough gears to make 4-wheeling fun, but also i want to be able to cruse 65 on the freeway and not be running in too high rpm's. here is what my jeep has;
258 i6
1983 cj7
dana 30 front dana 20 rear
300 transfer case'
borg warner 4 spd trany
thanks

What makes you think it is a T-19, does it have a granny low. If not, and it is the stock trans, it is a BW T-4. The T-19 has a granny 1st of around 6.3 to 1, the T-4 has a first gear of about 4 to 1. The T-4 was offered stock in 83, along with the T-176, which has a much higher first gear, around 3.6 to 1. double check what trans you have first. (Note: The T-19 was never offered in a CJ from the factory, the non synchro 1st T-18 was in 2 versions.)

Unless a previous owner swapped in a trans, you have a T-4 if it is BW.
