4\" Lift vibration question

I just installed my first lift kit!! It only took 3 days to complete (darn rusty bolts). Since I put the lift on I have noticed some serious vibration. I talked to a driveline guy, and he wanted to make a new rear driveshaft with a cv joint. He also wanted $350 for it. I was hoping that there might be a better solution out there. I could install a 1" Xfer case drop. I've been told that it might get rid of the vibration but It will eat up the universal joints pretty quick.

Thanks for any ideas.

Another question for those who have a CJ7 QTRAC with the TH400. Before I put the lift on, I noticed that the modulator on the Tranny was really close to the front driveshaft. If I hit a big bump I could damage the modulator bend it or brake it. Is this normal?

Thanks again.

Re: 4\" Lift vibration question

I installed a 4" lift on mine and didn't have any vibration problems. You might need to check the u-joint angles to make sure they are equal. I had my transmission rebuilt before the lift and the new modulator was smaller than the old so I can't comment on that.

Do I measure angle coming out of the xfer case and the angle coming into the axle? Did you install any xfer case drop? Would it make a difference if I have an AMC 20 instead of a D44? Did you install any degree shims on the rear springs?

Thanks again.

I did install I think 2-1/2* shims with the AMC20. For measuring the angles, yes, make sure the transfer case and pinion are parallel. Use one of these to measure.
