I have a 2000 Cherokee with the straight 6 engine. During the summer I change oil and filter about every 3,000 to 3,500 due to living on a dirt road. In the winter I slack off to every 4,000 to 5,000 as my pole barn isn't heated. Very few short tips. Short trips are 7 to 10 miles each way. Most trips aree 35 miles or more one way. Wonder how often the rest of you change your oil and what do you base it on? The manual says 7,500 or once a year, so I think I should be well within range. Been using 5-30w. Will be switching to a synthetic 5-30w blend with this change.

Same as you. Once a year and the rig does only 7-8000 a year. I think I have 10W30 semi for it.

I've never been one to follow manufacturers recommended intervals.

I simply watch My oil color, once it goes from a nice brown into a dark brown, or hopefully not black, its time to change.

There are so MANY variables in driving, use etc.

Obviously a babied vehicle driven enough miles to fully warm up regularly wont need changed as often as a truck thats thrashed and taken off road regularly.

So many variables....I love synthetics and even a good synthetic blend as well.
