Anybody know the proper flexplate for a 360 (from an 86 Wagoneer) and TH400 combo? It's a Jeepster TH400. My buddy thinks he got the wrong one. Any part #s or links are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If he is using the Commando TH400 he will need a flexplate from a 72-73 Wagoneer with a 360/TH400. The flexplates have a different dish to them to account for the crank spacer. They are different from later Waggys because the stopped using the bell adapter and crank spacer after 73. I need one myself right now and Autozone lists one on their website as a special order so I was going to try them. I think it is part number FRA-121 on their website.

Thanks df,

Sounds exactly like the problem he was having.

He told me "I ran into another snag... the flex plate is wrong it has to much space between the converter and the flex plate "

Will the flexplate physically bolt to the TC? Yes = right style flexplate (could still be the wrong one for a 360)
Won't fit over the centering nipple on the crank snout? (even if the gap was bridged)= missing adapter.

In that case, he'll need the crank spacer...as the '86 probably came with a TF tranny (flexplate bolted directly to the crank snout) and didn't use the adapter.

It did come bolted to a TF727. His latest email said:

"the bolt pattern is right for the crank but the teeth for the starter are facing the wrong way if you flip it over it changes the pattern on the crank and it won't bolt up."

So is he just missing a crank spacer?

What engine was originally in front of the TH400? There should have been a crank spacer on the back of the crank of the original motor, he may have missed it? I have a 360 flexplate out of a later Wag and a 360 flexplate out of a 72 and when comparing them you can see that the 72 one has a different offset so when bolted on to the back of the crank with the spacer in between it puts the ring gear teeth farther forward to engage the starter correctly and still put the torque converter far enough back to engage on the tranny. The newer style does not have this kind of offset built into it. Does he have the crank spacer, without that it wont go together correctly at all...
