I was looking in a magazine recently and it said that 31x12.50/R15s were a new size as of 2001. Is this really true or has this size been made earlier? I'm looking for a used set of these sized tires, so I hope I can find some.

They are a new size as far as I know, there might be a super swamper SX that was 31" and pretty wide. I'd stay w/ a 31x10.5 on stock wheels and save your cash for more important stuff.

New probably for that particular model of tire (which you didn't mention /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif). BFG's come in a metric size that's something like 325/60R15 & that's a 31X12.50, but they charge you more than they do for a 35. The 31" SX is a 13.50 wide. Coopers come in 31X11.50. I think I saw where some Interco radials (maybe SSR's) are coming out in the 31X12.50 size.
