You can run 31" tires on a Yj with no lift. However I wouldn't reccomend it. I would suggest at the least a 1" body lift. And then I would probably combine that with a 2" suspension lift. I ran 31's on my old Yj and you will rub with no lift. If you do any kind of wheeling at all go with tire/lift combo. But if you street it all the time then you could most likely get away without any lift. Hth

I have seen many stock yjs with 31 and 30s shoes on! I'am running 30x9.50x15s on stock rims15x6.5 on my 90 yj and everything is cool on pavement though the rpms have jumped up a bit doing 120kms. Off-roading they bottom out a bit but whats a little tire rub on the wheelwells, however turning radius is cut a bit the tires do rub on leaf spring at full lock this can be fixed this with losening the stops on the axle knuckles or using offset aftermarket rims. The problems I described would to some degree amplified in your case with a set of 31s. Get em and if they rub more then you like add longer shackles from con-ferr.

too weird to live, too rare to die!

i just got BFG All-Terrian T/A's for my 95 wrangler in 30x9.5's and they fit great and i guess u could fit 31's but if u hit a bump they would rub, even with my 30's i just recently put a 2in body lift on and that cleared them up alot, it all depends if u want your tires to rub or not, i'm planing to even put TJ flares on my wrangler to have even more room, its really up to do, but if u got a 4cylinder like i do, your gonna want to go with the 30's i think, and don't forget your speedometer is gonna be messed up too because of the bigger tires. plus if u got 6.5 inch width tires, i don't think u can fit 10.5's on it those can u?
have a good one

oh yeah and one more thought, i got my tires at national tire and battery, and when i asked them if 31's would fit, they said that they weren't aloud to put 10.5's on 7in rims and also that it would rub if i hit any bumps, now i know poeple with 10.5's on 7in rims i'm sure there are people on this board with them, but thats just what they told me...

I've got 31 x 10.5's on my 87 YJ, and I've only noticed minimal rub though I haven't done much wheeling. I plan to add a one inch body lift and maybe some longer shackles to make it a more trail-worthy.

MudFlap 87 YJ POS!!
I was thinking about running 32 inch tires under my stock YJ, but then they would rub on the road even, so instead I went with 31x10.5 Dueler MTs. I go off-road a lot, I twist things up on logs and stumps, I go airborn whereever a good launchpad can be found, and I go pretty fast over fairly rough terrain (wonder why my driver's seat it busted...?) My tires rub the leaf springs at full turn but...who cares? They rub the fenders like mad when you turn and are flexing things, but if you go straight they tuck up into the fenderwells fairly well.... Get a caliper out and measure those rims. Mine say 15x7 but they are actually 15x7.5 and they hold my tires on very well all the way down to 10psi for running in the sand or rocks. I used to run 31x10.5 on the front and 31x11.5s in the back. Looked neat and handled sand real well! I've never had problem getting tires mounted on my rims...but, this is Florida
