Been meaning to post this for a couple of days & saw reference in another thread, so here goes. Saw a 1/2 ton Chevy on the stock rims. The truck was somewhere between a '94 & '98 (had the newer grill & the newer style 5-spoke alloy wheels with the solid center cap) & was unlifted. The guy had a set of 305/70R16 Goodyear AT/S tires & it appeared to fit those just fine. Basically the same height as 285's, but wider. Looked real nice /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.

Did it look like those tires had a good contact patch? My 285/75's on stock rims on my unlifted '95z71 fit fine, but seems like the tire balloons a little more than the 265's. Curious if the 305's being wider would have a difficult time planting the entire width of the tread on the ground given the "skinny" stock rim width.....

Thanks for the update though...

Yes they fit, I know a guy that has them on his stock Z71 alloy wheels. But here are the top 5 reasons why you don't want them!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.
#5 They do balloon badly.
#4 They don't LOOK right.
#3 You have to run a lower air pressure (so your fuel economy suffers)
#2 They are "Goodyear" tires! and they have a wimpy street tire tread pattern (have you ever had goodyear tires?/wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif)

And the number one reason you don't want them!!!!!

#1 They are not BF Goodrich /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

Paaaleeeeeezzzzzz!!! BFG AT/ko's are WAY better!
They have a triple sidewall,
They fit way better (285/75),
They have better much more aggressive tread, (its so aggressive it is attacking the sidewall/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif)
They will last longer,
Air & Water will be cleaner,
Food will taste better,
They add 5years to your life,
Sex will be better,
Young women will be attracted to you,
Birds will sing when you drive by,
Your children will receive scholarships!

I Wish !!!!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif That would be kuel!
My first act would be to get them to make the MT in a 315/75!
And then maybe we could address the whole fixed pricing deal! (and give a discount to any Off-road.com or ColoradoK5.com member)

One thing I can say is they have never let me down or disappointed me!
BFG tires and Sears Craftsmen handtools, I can't say enough good about them!

Maybe you could get them to make a real agressive tire like the Bogger except it has a smooth radial ride and have it be strong like a bias. /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

Also, MORE 16" SIZES!!!

I want to get 38" radials thats wider than 12.5" with a 16" rim and theres not too many choices out there.

Hey Tex, they work just fine and don't rub at all. I had them on my Sport before I lifed it on the stock 97 Directional rims. I have atached a pic of the tires on the truck and to tell you the truth, I think they looked really good (better than my BFG KO's that I had on my 99 Z71) Now as far as tread life I put 20K on them before I lifted the truck, then I sold them to my best friend who has a 96 Z71. He has put almost 40K on them and they still have alot of tread left and neither of us have ever had a problem with them. The ATS's are a great tire.

Tex-

I have a friend that put them on his 97 Z71. He took them off within a month. You have to crank the bars, even then under a moderate dip. THEY RUB HARD! He put on BFG 285/75/16's. Goodyears are soft tread, they tend to wear out alot quicker as well. I had a set of GSA's on my 94 about 4 years ago, ever since I have had BFG's. Better tire, better life, less money. If BFG would only make a tire over 35", I'd be set!!

i have the BFG's AT ko 285/75's on my 96 Z truck, had them about 2 weeks and love them. i had them through a rice field road nice gumbo mud and then drove a mile on a dirt road and the tread still wasn't clear, but i got over it cus i didn't get stuck. BFG'S ALL THE WAY! they look great too.

Hey Scoob, this remark affended me!

#2 They are "Goodyear" tires! and they have a wimpy street tire tread pattern (have you ever had goodyear tires?)/wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif

Well my dad's explorer has Goodyear RT/S (even wimpier than AT/S) on it, and guess what! They have 65,000 miles on them, and they look brand new (It goes without saying that I'm ashamed my k5 shares the driveway with a phord). I have 33x12.5 Goodyear MT/R on my K5. Lets see, they're unbelievably quiet on road and great offroad. I am wondering who has never had Goodyear tires!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

RyanB, those are the same rims this guy had. They looked pretty good to me. One thing about wide 16" sizes is that the tire is shaped to work better with narrow rims than many 16" sizes. For example, mount a 10.5" wide 265/75 on a 6.5" wide rim & they look right, but mount a 31X10.50 on a 6.5" rim & they'll crown. The sidewalls are shaped differently & it's not just the width that matters. To further illustrate, I had some Cooper STT's in 255/85R16 on my truck & they crowned more than the 265/75R16 Cooper STT's that are on there now. Same brand, same tread style, but modern 16" tire vs. old style 16" tire.

Hey Scoob, guess you know 305/70 & 315/75 BFG ATko's are now available. Sort of zaps one of your reasons not to run that size /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif.

Tex, No actually I didn't know BFG now makes the 305/70 (contrary to popular believe I don't work for them/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif) but I still would NOT run them on a 6.5" or 7" stock wheel for MOST of the same reasons I gave about the GY 305.
I think 305/70's would be great, if you have some lift (2" or more) and you are running a 16X8 wheel this would be an ideal tire/wheel setup!
84k5 No offense intended, people ask for opinions and that is MY opinion, That's all...
Let me attempt to clarify a couple things you said "Well my dad's explorer has Goodyear RT/S (even wimpier than AT/S) on it, and guess what! They have 65,000 miles on them, and they look brand new" I am not surprised, street tires are supposed to last a lot longer than AT tires, normally the more aggressive the tread the less mileage you will get.
"I have 33x12.5 Goodyear MT/R on my K5. Lets see, they're unbelievably quiet on road and great offroad. I am wondering who has never had Goodyear tires!" I have not had MT/R's and don't plan to. I am glad you like them! the reason I don't is because, I have had GY tires, in my experience they start out fine, and steadily (rapidly in my opinion) go down hill, especially the handling!
Now originally we were talking about the BFG AT/ko compared to the GY AT/S but I do feel the exact same way about the MT series also. No biggy /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif I like BFG, you like GY, and Tex likes Cooper (although I suspect if $ was no object, Tex could be swayed into BFG's), some people like Phords & Dogdes, I like CHEVY's At least we can agree on that!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
Like I said NO offense was intended or taken,/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif lets not get to "politically correct" to where we have to carefully disguise our opinions so as not to offend anyone, then we may as well not have any opinion at all!/wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

I don't know where you heard the rumor about BFG coming out with a 305/70R16 ATko, but it's just that. I am in the market for a set, and talked to them about it after I heard that. Actually talked to one of their spokespersons who said that they were not coming out with any, and were not planning on them. She really knew what she was talking about too, so this wasn't some parrot repeating what she was told or had on her paper. Sorry, I would love to have a set of BFG's. I will probably be going with either a set of Goodyear AT/S's or MT's. I've heard good things about the AT/S's and have put countless miles on USMC HUMVEE 37x12.5R16.5 Goodyear MT's.

AJMBLAZER, A couple other options/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
I know BFG does have 295/75AT/ko's (11.6x33.4) which should not rub with your lift. I don't know if they make the MT's in this size.
Also if you are stuck on the 305/70 (12x32.8) Procomp make some nice looking MT's. But Procomps AT's look way too mild/wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif
For comparison 285/75 should be around (11.2x32.8)

Well, I was pretty sure my local tire dealer had pricing advertised for both the 305/70 & 315/75R16 BFG AT, but I don't have the ad with me. I do however have the Nat. Tire & Wheel ad showing the 315/75R16 ATko (at $198 each /wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif), but not the 305. Could be they skipped the 305/70 since they already have the 295/75?? BTW, the 295/75 is NOT available in the MT - or anyone else's tire as far as I know.

Gentlemen-

Let us do simple math.
BFG AT Ko
285/75/16 $160
33x12.50x15 $120

315/75/16 $198
35x12.50x15 $150

I don't know about you, But I'm not going to spend $200 bucks more on a set of tires if I don't have to. I put rear disc brakes on my friend's 96 Z71, and 15" wheels cleared them fine. Also did fine on the front. 16" Wheels make it handle better, but if your going to lift it, the ball joints and CV boots are going to wear out sooner just the same. As far as goodyear....When they win in Baja, then I'll quit saying they are garbage.

Have you been paying attention to any of those rock crawling compititions? I see tons of Goodyears and Swampers, but no BFGs. Maybe when BFG wins one of those I'll stop saying they're garbage./wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Rhino, I know the prices are high and i would love to take advantage of the 15" tire price But 15" rims do not fit on the front of the silverados. The brakes on the front of these things are huge.

I want 305's because they are about an inch wider and the same height, the 295's are only like .4 wider than mine. I'm going with AT's probably, because my truck, as much as I hate to admit it, sees way more miles onroad than off. So a set of Goodyear AT/S's or ProComp AT's are in the works, just have to see which is cheaper.
