I checked on tirerack and it shows 285/75/16 and 305/70/16 is the same height with only 1 inch width difference. So does anyone know if the 305's will fit on a stock 97 4x4?...Thanks!

Seriously though, not without a good amount of trimming. 285's are the biggest you can go with little/no trimming.

305's are a little uncomfortable on the classic body style 88-98 pickups, without at least a body lift. It has been proven though, with the right wheels and backspacing, they will barely rub... if they do it will be minimally. However, if you really care about your investment, and you want to actually wheel on these tires consider a small lift - perhaps a 2' body lift - to make everything work properly together.

The new body style pickups with the big front bumper, actually fit 305's on the stock wheels with no trimming.

I ran 305's with a 3" body lift for a while on 16x10" Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels with like 4 3/4" backspacing for a while on my ride. It looked like this -

These were rubbing like crazy offroad, and for a while I didn't understand why, but after looking closely I found the 10" wide rim with those tires were just too much for the truck in general. The tire actually was rubbing on the frame believe it or not. So if you get the right wheels, you should be alright. I tried the 305's on my factory rims, and they never rubbed, but they just did not look right by any means.

I seen some trucks at the mall with 305's om stock rims but i always seem to see them when the're parked. I haven't got the chance to ask any of the owners how they drive on a stock truck because they do seem to be close to the fenders. I just want to find out whats the biggest tire i can fit without lifting it. I want to be able to hava a little fun with my daily driver, when my rockcrawler is not running. Thanks for the tips!

if you plan on using it in the dirt, go with 285/75/16 tires. they wont rub and will fill the wheel well just fine
